REVISED 26 April 2014
Cape Town is already well served with two major teaching and specialist hospitals (Groote Schuur and Tygerberg
hospitals) and a specialist Hospital for children (Red Cross Childrens' Hospital). Substantial focus has been placed
recently on the development of community level facilities for the dormitory suburbs in the area known as the Cape
Flats. The tour will focus on two new district hospitals completed over the last few years and examples of community
health centres and community day centres. A short vist will also be included of the new MDR‐TB wards at the Brooklyn
Chest hospital.
Service is currently being provided from a temporary container clinic constructed in a leased factory
building ‐ an interesting facility in itself. Scheduled to move across to a new facility July/ August 2014.
Vist will depend on the final completion date and transfer across to the new facility
