Title: Heat Recovery System
Project Cost: 1.8 Crore
Period: Nov-14 –June15
Description: TATA MOTORS LTD. , India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturing company has achieved higher
environment friendly manufacturing in its Lucknow plant through its initiative of reducing Co2 emission from its production
process by 25% ,
New “Waste heat recovery system “ was installed in plant paint Shop in month of July 2015 to recover waste heat from E.D. &
Top coat oven. The sustainable results of this project were achieved by generating hot water using the exhaust flue gases which
are vented out at 320 degree centigrade
This hot water is then used for heating application in Pre-treatment process in the Paint Shop itself. As a result, 80% reduction for
hot water generation for this purpose was achieved that saved 75 kg/hr. of propane Gas consumption (Energy equivalent to
828100 KCAL/hr) On an average this translates to the energy consumed by nearly 2200 Indian households in a year. Total
savings in terms of money is INR 22721859
Equivalent to US $ 354887 . To achieve this a shell & tube heat exchanger is installed at the exhaust of oven through a diverter valve
which diverts hot flue gases to heat exchanger which in turns recovers heat of flue gases to heat water up to 85
degree Celsius . In total 131 cubic meter/Hr. of water is heated to 85 degree Celsius
