At the end of the presentation you will be able to
plan, create, and deliver effective presentation.

An effective presentation makes the best use of
the relationship between the presenter and the
audience.
It takes full consideration of the audience’s
needs in order to capture their interest, develop
their understanding, inspire their confidence and
achieve the presenter’s objectives.

Many factors affect the design of your
presentation. As a powerful presenter you must
acknowledge and address the following points;

Why are you making the presentation?
This is the question that has to come in mind.
What you want to achieve and what you want
your audience to take away with them.

Once you have been able to determine
the objective of your presentation then
you are in a better position to make
decisions about the design of your

different experiences, interest levels of
knowledge. You need to acknowledge
these and prepare for and respond to

Once you have thought about the design of your
presentation, you can develop your main topic.
Ask yourself;
What are the main points you wish to make?
Are these points structured in a logical or coherent
way?
Do your main points reflect your objectives and
takes account of your audience?

STATEMENTS
The next stage is to develop the linear flow of
your presentation. This can be achieved by
using linking statements to show clearly how
your main points fit together.

“ The next stage in your project was to….”
“ Another important issue of
consideration…”
The linking statements send a signals to your
audience, highlighting the next point of your
statement.
16. D. DEVELOP AN OPEN INTRODUCTION
The introduction to your presentation is crucial. It
is your first point of contact with your audience,
you can either capture or lose your audience’s
interest in a matter of seconds.
Try to use the following structure;
Introduce yourself
State what you will be talking about(eg. Topic
or subject area)

State how you will be talking about the
topic(eg, by comparing test result or reviewing
supporting literature ).
State what you intend to be the outcome of
your presentation( eg, lively discussion)

do(eg, listen, take notes, ask questions before

Always give your audience a moment to absorb
these information before moving into your first
main topic.

Your conclusion is another important stage in
your presentation. You can use it to remind your
audience of your main points.

the quality of your presentation.

Once you have written your presentation make
sure that you review its contents. Ask yourself;
Does the presentation meet your objectives?
Is it logically structured?
Have you targeted the material at the right
level for your audience?
Is this presentation too long or too short?

Minimize the number of slides
Choose a font size that your audience can
read from a distance
Keep your text simple by using bullet points or
using short sentence
Make labels for charts and graphics
Make slide backgrounds consistence
Check the spelling and grammar.

PRESENTATION.
A. Practice
The more familiar you are with your material the
more you will be able to inspire your audience’s
trust and confident. Try to read your materials
several times before presenting in order to be
familiar with your materials.

B. Assert yourself
You need to be assertive but not aggressive.
There are two important things you have to note
Posture : it is important to appear confident
at all times. First impression counts, dress
corporate and stand upright.

Presence : have the confidence to fill your
space in front of the audience. Avoid
apologizing for your present by saying ’’sorry ”
( although you must be polite ) but if
circumstances demand for that like running
over time you can apologize for that.

One of the key challenges faced by many
presenters is to established links with their
audience.
Making contact helps to maintain the audience’s
interest and encourages them to believe that
you are genuinely interested in talking to them.

You can make contact with your audience in a
number of ways like;

gestures

Your voice is very flexible and powerful tool.
You can use it in many different ways by varying the;
Volume : make sure your voice is loud enough for
your audience to hear clearly.
Pace : make sure the speed of your delivery is
easy to follow. If you speak too quickly or too
slowly, your audience will have it difficult in
following your speech.

Always remember to breath steadily or deeply. If
you are an anxious about presentation, your
breathing will become fast and shallow.
30. F. Drink
It is a good idea to have water with you to
quench your thirst especially if you are speaking
for too long.
31. CONCLUSION
Try to explore your personal style using any of
the above information in different combination
for different effects. Above all remember two
main points;
Be yourself
Avoid any behavior that might be off-putting to
your audience.
Always be clear with of your voice and physical
actions.
