Since its foundation in 1989, SITE has become a leading research and policy center on transition in the former Soviet Union and Central and Eastern Europe.
1. WHAT WE DO IN SWEDEN
SITE is a leading research institute with a strong policy fo-
cus. Since our founding in 1989, our work originates from
the transition from centrally planned to market economies in
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Over time, as
this region has transformed, our research and policy agenda
has evolved to stay relevant to these countries and the issues
they face, as well as to other countries and regions under-
going major economic and political change. Our faculty
are recruited on the international academic market from top
universities and their wide-ranging research, published in the
highest-ranking academic journals, forms the basis for our
policy analysis.

IMPACT
WHAT WE DO IN THE REGION
For more than 20 years, SITE has supported institutions
in economics research, policy analysis and education in
our region of focus. Together with our partners, the lead-
ing economics research centres in their countries, we now
collaborate as the “Forum for Research on Eastern Europe
and Emerging Economies”, or the FREE NETWORK, which
unites New Economic School and CEFIR in Russia, BICEPS at
SSE Riga in Latvia, the Kyiv School of Economics in Ukraine,
CenEA in Poland, BEROC in Belarus, and ISET in Georgia.
Collectively, they have helped shape policies in the region
by educating its current and future leaders, conducting
research, and giving policy advice to inform policy makers,
businesses and the public on key economic issues.

2. JOIN FORCES WITH SITE
OUR MISSON
OUR VISION
To strengthen Sweden and its partners in our
focus region through economic research and
science-based education and policy advice.
SITE and the FREE network are the leading
institutions in our region for economic research,
the first choice of education for future leaders,
and the premier source of knowledge for policy
makers and businesses.
SITE was founded in partnership between the Swedish
government and leading businesses. Our partners
have contributed their expertise to enrich our under-
standing of the region and supported us in promoting
rigorous economics research and policy advice through
our network of collaborators. This work is far from over
as important reforms must still be carried out. Success is
critical for Sweden as these countries are our immediate
neighbours and home to more than 200 million people.
We therefore must continue to build strong partnerships in
the region and monitor its economic and political devel-
opments.
Through our contacts, we offer you:
• A way to contribute to economic development in the
region by supporting research that shapes economic
policy, educates future leaders, and lays the foundation
for new business opportunities for your organization.
• The opportunity to interact and collaborate with a
network of researchers and analysts in Sweden and
the region to discuss strategic issues and get the latest
insights from our research and policy work.
• A direct connection to well-educated students in the
region for internships, projects and employment.
In short, supporting SITE means doing Corporate Social
Responsibility in a smart way and building contacts that
can help your business in the long run.
