increasedby223,000inDecember,andtheunemploymentrateedgeddown
to3.5percent.Notablejobgainsoccurredinleisureandhospitality,healthcare,
construction,andsocialassistance.1
Forveterans,unemploymentincreasedfrom
2.8percentto3.2percentinDecember.Post-9/11veteranunemployment
remainedunchangedat3.0percent.Theoverallunemploymenttrendvariesby
differentveterandemographicfactors,however,somemorethanothers.
Withrespecttoage,theunemploymentrateforveteransages18-24increased
inDecember,from11.6percentto13.6percent.Theunemploymentratefor
veteransages25-34increasedfrom2.9percentto3.9percent.Duringthisperiod,
veteransages18-24wereunemployedatahigherratethantheirnonveteran
peersofthesameagegroup(7.3percent).Veterans25-34wereunemployedat
ahigherratethantheirnonveteranpeersofthesameagegroup(3.6percent).The
unemploymentrateforveteransages65andolderincreasedinDecember,from3.8
percentto4.1percent.Veteransages65andolderwereunemployedatahigherrate
thantheirnonveteranpeersofthesameagegroupinDecember(2.7percent).
TheunemploymentrateforfemaleveteransdecreasedinDecember,from1.8
percentto1.7percent.Bycomparison,femalenonveteranshaveanunemployment
rateof3.1percent.TheunemploymentrateformaleveteransincreasedinDecember
from2.9percentto3.5percent.Bycomparison,malenonveteranshavean
unemploymentrateof3.3percent.

Withrespecttoage,theunemploymentrateforveteransages18-24increased inDecember,from11.6percentto13.6percent.Theunemploymentratefor veteransages25-34increasedfrom2.9percentto3.9percent.Duringthisperiod, veteransages18-24wereunemployedatahigherratethantheirnonveteran peersofthesameagegroup(7.3percent).Veterans25-34wereunemployedat ahigherratethantheirnonveteranpeersofthesameagegroup(3.6percent).The unemploymentrateforveteransages65andolderincreasedinDecember,from3.8 percentto4.1percent.Veteransages65andolderwereunemployedatahigherrate thantheirnonveteranpeersofthesameagegroupinDecember(2.7percent). TheunemploymentrateforfemaleveteransdecreasedinDecember,from1.8 percentto1.7percent.Bycomparison,femalenonveteranshaveanunemployment rateof3.1percent.TheunemploymentrateformaleveteransincreasedinDecember from2.9percentto3.5percent.Bycomparison,malenonveteranshavean unemploymentrateof3.3percent.
