3. ¿What’s a Procession?
March of people who walk orderly and
solemnly down the street with a
ceremonious motive, especially of the
Catholic religion.
Here in Guatemala they are
accompanied of a wooden structure with
an image of Jesus, Mary, Saint John or
Saint Mary Magdalene with their
respective decoration and a band who
plays Funeral marches.
4. Traditional
“Alfombras”
The Alfombras made in
Guatemala for the Holly Week are
made of organic sawdust of
diferent colours.
They’re known by the most
prettiest carpest of the world.
They’re made in Sacrifice to
Jesus and Mary.
5. Famous Processions
Maybe there are a lot of processions in Guatemala but if
you ask a cucurucho (man who carry a procession) he
will talk you about:
Consecrated Image of “Jesus Nazareno de los
Milagros, Rey del Universo del Santuario del Señor
San José” who has a roman squadron and a travel of
more than 17 hours and more than 300 years old.
This procession is the Palm Sunday. It’s the one
exposed in the cover page.
Consecrated image of “Señor Sepultado del Santuario
de San Felipe Apostol” who is located in a little town
and enter the Antigua Guatemala every Holly Friday.
Consecrated image of “Jesus Nazareno de
Candelaria, CRISTO REY” who is celebrating 100
years of being consecrated and In the procession it
was accompanied with “Jesus Nazareno de los
Milagros” and with the consecrated image of “Jesus
Nazareno de la Merced”
And a lot of more processions…
6. Food
The Holly Week is also an
opportunity for restaurants and
chefs, we have a lot of typical
food that is presented in
processions and most of the Holly
Week activities.
Into there are:
Torrejas
Buñuelos
Enchiladas
Suchiles
Garnachas
Etc.
