  4. 4. HEART BEAT MONITOR Wrist band for calculating heart beat A heart rate monitor is a personal monitoring device which allows one to measure his or her heart rate in real time or record the heart rate for later study. It is largely used by performers of various types of physical exercise. R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 4
  5. 5. Why Monitoring……? More than 2 million people are at high risk of having heart attack. It would be helpful if there was a way for these people to monitor their heart. So we have a problem. That is the way our project focuses on how we can utilize this problem and find a solution. R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 5
  6. 6. Measurement of Heart rate • Stethoscope --- inaccurate • Electrocardiogram – costly & not user friendly R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 6

  8. 8. What we have done? ? ? • We , in this project are measuring the heart beat using the pulse oximetry logic. • The timer we have set for counting the heart beat is 0s. • There is a set point we can decide, after 0 s the heartbeat would be shown on the LED. 11. 11. HEARTPULSE TESTING USING LED • Finger is illuminated by red light being emitted by red led. • When heart will expand then there will be more blood in blood vessels as a consequence more absorption of red light will occur and lesser amount of red light will fall on 555timer ic , decrease in resistance of ic will be less and large current will through ic . 14. 14. 555 TIMER IC 555 Timer IC is a classic timer IC which can be used in many kinds of timing related applications, check all the 555 Timer Circuit here. This is an 8 pin IC. The pin diagram of the 555 timer IC is shown in the below image. R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 14
  15. 15. BC337 NPN Transistor Transistor BC337 is an NPN bipolar junction transistor. The transistor BC337 consists of 3 pins, base, emitter, and collector as R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 15
  16. 16. WORKING OF MISSING PULSE DETECTOR CIRC • The 555 IC receives generate the pulses in our heart by the help of connecting wires, which is formed using resistor R1 and capacitor C1. Values of R1 and C1 determines the time period in monostable mode. R1 is connected across the capacitor C1. Input signal is directly connected to the trigger pin of the timer IC 555 and also connected to a single 10k base resistor • The triggering of LEDs based on our heart beats R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 16
  17. 17. APPLICATIONS :- • Have become a widely used training aid for a variety of sports. • Hospitals / Dispensaries • Better and accurate method of measuring heart beat. • At homes • A set point can help in determining whether a person is healthy or not checking his/her heart beat R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 17
  18. 18. LIMITATIONS :- • In-accurate method of calculating heartbeat. • Logic used in very simple. Therefore, results may vary as for a sophisticated instrument for the same purpose R A G H U E N G I N E E R I N G C O L L E G E E E E E D C M I N I P R O J E C T 18
  19. 19. FUTURE SCOPE :- • EEG, ECG and other health parameters can also be monitored. • Continuous monitoring and future diagnosis can be performed via the same system (TELEMEDICINE). • More than a single patient at different places can be monitored using single system.
