New year's resolution to reform English spelling
1.
2. Any reform in spelling should take place over a
long time to prevent confusion. It should also be
completely coherent, and the invention of new
letters should be avoided. A convenient way of
revision would involve altering or deleting one
letter, or associated group of letters, per year, to
give people time to absorb the change.
3. For example, in Year 1 that extremely useless
letter ‘c’ would be dropped to be replased by either
‘k’ or ‘s’, and likewise ‘x’ would no longer form part
of the alphabet. The only remaining kase in which
‘c’ would be kept will be the ‘ch’ formation, which
will be dealt with later.
4. Year 2 might well reform ‘w’ spelling so that
‘which’ and ‘one’ would take the same konsonant,
while Year 3 might well abolish ‘y’ replasing it with
‘i’, and Iear 4 might fiks the ‘g’ - ‘j’ anomali wonce
and for all.
5. Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue
iear bai iear, with Iear 5 doing awai with useless
double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so
modifaiing vowlz and the remaining voist and
unvoist konsonants.
