15. The payoff
The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects health-
related industries will add more jobs (5 million)
than any other industry from 2012 to 2022
Annual economic impact of a rural Ky. PCP:
$1.7 million in revenue (clinic and hospital)
$800,000 in payroll
20 jobs

Kentucky Rural Health Works Program, 2007

Three medical residency programs in NE KY
St. Claire added osteopathic FM residency in 2013

-- Sub-bullet one: We wanted ours not to be an applied health care clinical rotation and broader than just public health
-- Sub-bullet two: 2013 it was $6,000 to offset student stipend expenses
-- Sub-bullet two: 2014 was $9,000 in our operation funds (not sustainable, especially considering a $20,000+ cut in our state funds this year)
-- Sub-bullet one: Requirement of a designated mentor at each
-- Sub-bullet one: Requirement that host sites propose a six week-long project
-- Sub-bullet one: Goal was that the activities would reinforce and expand upon the participants’ in-class experiences,
-- Train students in a rural location, especially for an extended period of time, and they’re more likely to practice there
