The phrase "smart houses" refers to the intelligence of home
appliances in general rather than the smart home specifically.
These appliances come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
There is a trend toward creating "smart houses" as a result of the
development of IoT technologies, which enable gadgets to
communicate with one another and receive some orders through
The term "Internet of things" refers to actual physical things
that have sensors, computing power, software, and other
technologies and can link to other systems and devices via
the Internet or other communications networks and
exchange data with them.
SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY
A smart home app on a smartphone or other networked device, also known
as home automation or domotics (from the Latin "domus" meaning home),
offers homeowners protection, comfort, convenience, and energy efficiency
by enabling them to control smart equipment. Smart home systems and
devices, which are a part of the internet of things (IoT), frequently work
together, sharing consumer usage data among themselves and automating
activities based on the preferences of the homeowners.
History of Smart Homes
The introduction of electricity into homes at the start of the 20th century
sparked the invention of many electrical devices and tools like washing
machines, heaters, refrigerators, sewing machines, and clothes dryers.
The original X10 home network automation technology was invented in
1975. It employs pulsed chanting technology to transport digital signals
between electrical devices across electrical energy transmission wires.
History of Smart Homes
This technology loses signal due to radio-band "noise" in electrical lines.
Since smart devices can only execute commands, the X10 protocol was one-way.
In 2005, Instion, a home automation startup, introduced wireless protocols including Zigbee
and Z-Wave to solve X10's difficulties, and in 2011, Nest Labs produced its first smart
product, the intelligent device control. Protection systems, surveillance cameras, and
thermoplastic, smoke, and CO detectors were given.
Amazon, Apple, and Google introduced smart home systems recently.
Generations of Smart Homes
• The first generation: wireless communications protocols like Zigbee
• The second generation: artificial intelligence systems that control
electrical equipment on their own, like the Amazon Echo
• Third generation: human-friendly robots like Robot Rovio and Roomba.
How the Smart Homes Works
Smart House systems use switches and sensors connected to a "gate" controlled by a user
interface on a wall-mounted terminal or a mobile phone or tablet.
M2M communication technology uses sensors and instrument counters to capture an event
(movement, meter reading, temperature, illumination) and transfer it across a network
(wireless, wired, or mixed) to an application (computer program) that interprets it.
Example of Smart Homes
Smart washing machines notify users when detergents are low, while smart refrigerators
can suggest recipes depending on the food within.
WIFI, Zigbee, and Bluetooth Low Energy can connect M2M gateway devices.
Networked M2M gateways connect to servers.
