BBC Pitch work
• Effective pitches always need to follow the four c's; content, clarity, concise information
and compelling delivery. Your content needs to be relevant to fit the brief of the pitch,
your language needs to be clear and well-paced, don't include any unnecessary
information with your pitch as this can ruin the pacing, the whole point of a pitch is to be
attention keeping, interesting and to the point, you also need to do all you can to keep
the attention of and connect with whomever your audience might be when presenting
your pitch as you want the audience your presenting this to greenlight your idea. You
also want to speak with an upbeat tone to your voice and keep eye contact to whoever
you're presenting to seem more confident as it'll make your idea and your pitch sound
and look better
• It's important to know what you're asking for before you give the pitch as you're not
going to get greenlit for your idea if you have no sense of what you need to make this
idea happen, if it’s a show you're pitching you need to think of what's needed,
like location and the cost of using that location, the actors you're going to have and
why as they'll not come cheap depending on who you're asking for
If you don't get greenlit, ask for feedback, this can help fix your mistakes and you can build
upon them so that you can make your pitch the best it can be
• The channels BBC 1, 2 and 3 are well known in the uk, but to pitch a show
to the BBC you need to know what airs on what channel and what channel
the show I'm pitching will go on
• BBC 1 typically airs dramas and reality tv shows like Eastenders, waterloo
road and the apprentice, whereas BBC 2 tends to air non-fictional shows
such as news shows and lifestyle programmes such homes under the
hammer, shows that are entertaining but not based on fiction. BBC 3
usually airs comedies like bad education and reality shows like Charlotte in
Sunderland
• Since my show is going to be a mockumentary style comedy it would air on
BBC 3, my show will not include any content that has to be aired after a
certain time like a few watershed shows
BBC Presentation
The Idea
• My idea is to make a mockumentary in a
similar style to the popular comedy, the
office. This program will be set in in a
college/university rather than an office,
this is to relate to a younger audience as
college/university is a more relatable
environment as well as using relatable
humour to fit the younger audience
• It will be in a documentary style comedy, it
will take both adaptations of the US and
UK iterations of the hit show
Style and setting
• The show will have a style similar to the
UK office, using the same pacing and
humour as well as characters based off the
UK original
• It will use the same familiar style while
keeping it new and fresh by having it in a
new setting rather than just reusing an
office setting like the UK and American
versions of the show
Style and setting
continued
• This is unique to other shows as the office
is the only show that had as much success
as it did using the documentary style of
filming not utilized by many other comedy
shows, the unused style makes it seems
fresher than shows that use a more
professional looking format, the amateur
camera style adds to the comedy as you
wouldn't expect it from a documentary
style of filming
Runtime and Relevancy
• This kind of show would have a
runtime of about 25-30 minutes
due to it being a comedy show
and not having an extensive
plot that needs a big allotted
amount of time to develop, this
keeps it at a similar run time to
the original UK office which was
around 30 minutes
The BBC's three principles
are; inform, educate and entertain,
this show fits these principles as
with it being a comedy show, it's
made to entertain, this keeps it
relevant with the BBC principles
and branding as the principles are
one of the key elements of any
show being made or even pitched
Ratings
• You might ask, why is remaking a show for a third time a good
idea? The reason an office style mockumentary comedy is a
good idea is that both the office and its American remake
both achieved success in going over well with the fans, both
shows achieved high ratings in their time as well as today
with the fans of today using streaming services still achieve
incredibly high ratings (reviews) except online now as both
shows are no longer on air as much as it used to be
• As you saw from that one example from some reviews about both
makes of the office, they are still loved to this day, it still gets the
good ratings they used to get
• The people are going to either want more or something similar to this
as watching the same series can get boring and a bit predictable
whereas an idea like this could give people the two things they're
wanting, the comfort and feel of watching a classic show they'll enjoy
but with the twist of something new and exciting.
• Yes, you could argue that its just more of something that’s been done
before, but I see it as an opportunity to give the people a comforting
and new show that is tailored better towards the younger audience

Presenting my pitch
• After researching into pitches and interviews I made my own pitch to
present, my finished and recorded pitch, my pitch presentation is

moments of me presenting my pitch
