2. In separate ceremonies, FAA employees were honored for their outstanding achievement
as winners of the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary’s Annual Awards at DOT
and FAA headquarters. This is the highest honor FAA employees can achieve.
DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx commended winners in his speech at the Secretary’s Awards
Ceremony at DOT Headquarters. Foxx specifically mentioned innovations by the FAA in
implementing NextGen and regulating unmanned aircraft systems, and highlighted the
critical role the FAA plays in ensuring safety in an ever-changing world.
“You are an impressive group of
forward-thinking individuals,” he said.
“All of you are working hard on a daily
basis to make this country a better
place, ensuring that we are not just
preserving our transportation systems
today, but better equipping them to
embrace the changes of tomorrow.”
At the FAA ceremony, Administrator
Michael Huerta said, “These award
ceremonies remind us that, every day, each of us has an opportunity to be extraordinary.
That the work we do allows the most complex aerospace system in the world to also be the
safest. It brings families together and connects people and businesses with opportunities
around the globe.”
Huerta spoke on the importance of the FAA Strategic Initiatives
(https://my.faa.gov/org/staffoffices/AOA1/Strategic_Initiatives_Group.html) , but made clear that those
goals are not possible without the agency’s hard-working employees -- the driving force
behind them: “Without our employees, the Strategic Initiatives are just words on paper. It’s
all of you who breathe life into them.”
