21. Maximizing the Benefits in Volunteering
• Understand ‘Time Value’.
• There is nothing called ‘Free Lunch’, ensure
what you deserve.
• Never run after ‘Tangible’ benefits, try to
value the ‘Intangible’ outcomes also.
• Learn-whenever, wherever you can.
– I have practiced WordPress, PHP, Graphical Design,
Tableau, Presentation, Public Speaking, Management,
Emailing, Reporting, Budgeting etc.
20-Sep-20
22. Way of Professional Networking
• Email
• Linked In
• Active Engagement in posts on Social Media
• Joining in Workshops and Webinars and
showing activities i.e. comment, reaction.
• Attending Congress, Conference, Symposium
• Express the ‘True’ Yourself !
20-Sep-20
23. Are you ready for networking?
• Acid test:
– Do you know ‘clearly’ what is expertise domain?
• If no, ‘Know Thyself’ [Socrates]
– Do you have any professional portfolio?
• Any website/ Google site/ Academia/ research gate/
Google Scholar etc.
– Do you know the common etiquette of writing an
email? Or how to engage in professional media?
• How to address oneself? Is your email ID shows
professionalism? Is your profile self-explanatory?
20-Sep-20
24. Are you ready for networking?
• Acid test:
– Do you know all the facilities of IEEE and other
society/chapters of IEEE?
– Your intention of communication have any
concrete reason?
– Are you a motivator to yourself?
20-Sep-20
25. Some Guidelines-
from Personal Experience
• Your student life is the best time for practicing network
building
• Get yourself engaged in different local and international
professional network (i.e.: IEEE). No matter if it requires a
small portion of your pocket money.
• Start engaging, ‘Professionally’, in different social and
professional medias. You need to understand difference
between Facebook and LinkedIn.
• You need to accept ‘Rejection’ of being supported from your
connections! Because, ‘To understand the value of Sunlight,
you need to embrace the Darkness of Night’.
20-Sep-20
26. Some Guidelines-
from Personal Experience
• You will not get return every time for what have you done or
sacrificed, sometimes do it for free and for no cause.
– ‘Time’ will take care of the return for you.
• Volunteering is ‘Fun’. Enjoy it. Don’t make it a ‘Private Space/
Property/ Source of Income/ Anything related to Profession’.
Consider it a process of:
– Self Development
– Leadership Practice
– Motivating Potentials
– Give return to your peripherals.
20-Sep-20
27. Some Guidelines-
from Personal Experience
• IEEE and PES is Professional Network. Combine your
contribution in both ‘Academia’ and ‘Industry’
• Research, Research and Research- Academic/ Industrial/
Personal.
• Be your own competitor. Take reference from others, but
compete with yourself- in terms of Leadership, Qualification,
Diversification, Knowledge, Skill, Network.
