Career Objective:
I’m a second year microbiology student, with a keen interest in fungi, immunology and
parasites, looking to build more experience in a range of areas including laboratory
techniques and knowledge, in a pathological or medical environment, and my professional
skills.
Relavant work experience:
Work experience, Spring/Summer 2015, Laboratory Assistant:
 I’ll be working with Dr Ifat Parveen and her Phd student to help complete biological
and chemical assays, to help towards a bigger project about seaweed and their
chemical ability. A paper may also be published about this with my name included.
Practical experiments, 2015, Practical skills in Microbiology and Immunology:
 Immunology practical’s included working with lysozymes, haemagglutination, blood
leucocytes, ELISA and LAT.
 Microbiology practical’s included plate streaking, bioinformatics, epidemiology,
culture growth, swabbing of surfaces and sterile technique.
Practical experiments, 2013-2014, Aberystwyth University:
 Using a range of skills to successfully clone and transform E.coli, using pCR2.1-
TOPO.
 Identifying and growing own bacterial and fungal cultures.
 Using sterile techniques to ensure no contamination of cultures being grown.
 Doing a range of experiments over 4 weeks, using different algae, fungi, bacteria,
pseudofungi and myxomycetes, identifying and analysing each culture.
Other work experience:
Ty Hafan, January 2015 – Present, Volunteer:
 I gained new experience working in a clothing store, I helped to improve store targets
and takings
 I interacted well with customers, promoting offers on in store and improving their day.
 I learnt how to steam, present stock well and hang up clothing.
 I really improve my customer service and active selling skills by hitting my targets
and being polite and friendly to customers.
 I was exceptional at working in a team, as I’ve had a great deal of experience in this
area, and my confidence has improved considerably.
Asda, June 2013 – Present, Checkout Operator:
 Gained many skills, including great time management, balancing that, other work and
projects.
 Gained confidence, great people skills and working well in a team.
 Adapted quickly to different roles in the store, and always willing to help out.
 Maintained professional and polite manner, with all types of customers.
 Worked under pressure, in a fast paced environment and did a great job.
Holland and Barrett:January 2013 – September 2013, Sales Associate:
 Learned great interactions skills, promoting products and discussing a range of
symptoms with customers. This always required empathy and understanding.
 Gained management training, and was trusted to handle large amounts of money, as
well as opening and closing the store.
 Achieved targets given in store to sell products, which was done in a convincing but
polite manner.
Angel Inn Hotel, May 2012 – September 2012, Kitchen Porter:
 I learned a great standard of hygienic techniques.
 I gained more experience working in a close and fast paced team, working efficiently
and correctly to produce a 5 star standard of hygiene in the kitchen.
 Working hard and fast in a face paced and stressful environment, with no bad
reaction to stress.
Superdrug, May 2010 – June 2013, Sales Advisor:
 I learned how to active sell products to customers, to promote offers and gain great
interaction skills.
 I gained confidence in approaching people, being helpful towards them and great
people skills.
 I was trusted to help count up the tills, handle large amounts of money and help open
and close the store.
 I worked well with my other colleagues to help hit the targets given by the manager.
Additional skills:
 I have a full clean driving license.
 I have great skills in using computers and all relevant programmes such as Word,
Excel etc. Also GCSE grade C.
 I was also part of the Lacrosse team.
