2. Example 1 – Warner Brothers
Firstly, this is the official Warner Brothers Records
website. The layout of the website is very simple, due
to plain colours being used as well as most of the
website including images of a concert and singers,
helping it look more aesthetically pleasing to the target
audience. It also looks more modern and professional.
Secondly, the main colours used are black and white,
which keeps the simplicity of the design to the website.
It also helps the titles and main images stand out to
catch the audiences eye and persuade them to look
further into the website.
Also, separate links are used underneath the main title
and logo, which helps the audience gain quick access
to what they are searching for. The colour of the text is
the same as the main title, however it is smaller to,
again, make the title and main image stand out the
most. The titles include artists; news; playlists; our
label; and store. On each link, one letter within the
name of the link is a shape which looks like a letter.
For example a triangle as an ‘A’, making the website
look aesthetically pleasing and persuading the
audience to research further into the website.
3. Example 1 – Warner Brothers
Furthermore, this website shows images and albums
of the latest artists and music as well as the latest
news. This is ideal for the target audience because
the media is the best and quickest way to access this
type of information. The target audience tend to be
teenagers aged 13 years to adults aged 30+, due to
starring artists such as Dua Lipa and Luke Gallagher.
The mode of address is informative and authorative.
All headlines are in capitals, which may come across
as demanding and bossy. However, the subheadings
are in normal text, therefore coming across as
informative and friendly. The images have the artists
looking at the audience, therefore direct address is
show, also engaging the audience to look further
through the website and they feel engaged with the
artists.
4. Example 2 - BBC
The second example is the official BBC website,
which includes similar characteristics as the Warner
Brothers website, such as the bold logo and simple
colours. The logo is black and white, which is simple
and easy for the audience to identify and recognize
which company it is.
The main background colours are mainly blue and
yellow in stripes overlapping each other, which helps
the ‘Official Chart’ stand out due to it being in a grey
background, which is aesthetically pleasing to the
audience as the album covers of the latest music are
easier to see. Blue signifies relaxation and peace.
BBC tends to play the newest music, mainly the Pop
genre.
In addition, the separate links in the headlines are
included but this time there is a search bar too,
which helps give people quicker access for specific
needs. The font of the links are the same as the
main title, again on a blue background to make the
text bold and easy to access. The links include a
home page; official top 40; radio 1 articles; mixes;
guests; sessions; episodes; contact.
As well as being a music company, BBC mainly do
TV. For example, BBC News.
5. Unlike Warner Brothers, BBC is based in Britain
but other countries do have access to the
website. However, BBC is not as popular as
Warner Brothers as that company is international
and based in the USA.
The logo is a classic and simple design. For
example, the three white boxes with a letter in
each one. This helps it stand out to the audience
as it’s on a black background as well as the
simple aesthetics.
Furthermore, the mode of address is just
informative as there are only links and headlines
for the artists and music. There is no direct
address or friendly connection as there are no
images and the headlines are very basic; there is
a lack of punctuation to get a tone.
Example 2 - BBC
6. Example 3 – Jess Glynne
Firstly, the layout of the website is simple. There is
no logo as there is the name of the artist which is in
bold in the top left corner.
Also, there are links on the top right of the page with
social media logos such as Facebook to follow the
artist and keep up with the latest news.
The colours on the page are simple: lilac and grey,
which helps the white and black text stand out to
catch the audiences eye.
There is a main image of the artist herself, which is
placed on the right of the webpage. Jess is giving a
direct address towards the audience as she is
looking straight at the camera. She is wearing black,
connoting simplicity and class. Her facial
expressions are serious as she is looking over her
glasses, connoting power and independence as she
is a solo artist.
At mid-page of the website, the title of her latest
album is in bold capitals, with a variety of ways to
access purchasing it. For example, iTunes; Amazon
and Spotify.
This arrow is used to make the
audience gain access to the next
page. It’s simple to have rather
than using a main menu icon,
making it more appealing and
aesthetically pleasing.
7. Example 3 – Jess Glynne
Furthermore, the next page shows video clips of
the UK tour as well as her official music videos.
The lilac and grey are still used throughout the
website. However, the top tab of the website is
slightly transparent, which gives the website a
modern and professional look as the main image
for the UK tour is blending in.
The top of the website still has the links and the
artists name, which makes it easier for the
audience to gain access to different parts of the
website; saving them to scroll all the way back up
to the beginning of the webpage.
The mode of address is informative and friendly as
the audience are able to watch any video at
anytime as well as the UK tour video giving
information.
The text of the title “Jess Glynne” is bold with a
gradient of pink and purple, which are feminine
colours. Due to it being on a dark background, the
title is aesthetically pleasing and stands out o the
audience.
Also, the headline” UK Tour” is also bold but italic
as well. However, this text remains just pink to help
the main title stand out.
8. Example 3 – Jess Glynne
In addition, the colour of the background still remains lilac, which is a feminine colour. Jess Glynne has
a audience of mainly young right-wing females.
• Here, there is a list of Jess Glynne’s albums and how to buy, stream and tracklist them. This is a
way of promoting sales and sharing awareness of the latest tracks and dates of release, helping the
audience to keep up as it’s ‘trendy’ at a specific time.
• The text underneath the albums are black, bold and underlines to stand out to the audience.
• Each image of the albums are of Jess Glynne looking either towards the audience (direct address)
or looing away to connote passion and peace within her music.
9. Example 3 – Jess Glynne
In contrast, the last page continues to have
the lilac background, helping the black and
white text stand out.
The bold white headline will stand out to the
audience and persuade them to sign up for
the latest Jess Glynne news.
The small black text are other little links which
were on the first page of the website but have
combined it with social media links such as
Instagram, Google+ and YouTube.
The direct address of this page is informal
and friendly and the text is trying to persuade
the audience to sign up as well as informing
them on how to sign up and giving them links.
10. Conclusion
In conclusion, on my website, I will include simple colours and include images from the
music video to make it look modern and professional. I will also use different links in the
headline to help people gain access to the information which they want quickly. However,
I will not use images of famous artists as my music video has none in, but I will still use
images of main characters within my video.
The layout of my video will be simple and modern as these are connotations for a
professional looking website. Also, the mode of address will be directly towards the
audience as I will include images of the characters from the video looking at the
audience, making them feel more involved and persuade them to research further into
the website. The mode of address will be friendly and informative too due to the
headlines and subtitles including punctuation to engage the audience to read more of the
latest news and updates of the process of the music video.
