La Puntilla Agriculture Center
Layering Ethnicity andTourismThrough the Culinary Arts
Only 10% of Puerto Rican food is grown locally;
the majority of their agriculture is intended to be
outsourced for profit to the United States.Although
Puerto Rico is capable of exporting 80% of the United
States rum source, some of their most ethnic foods need
to be imported from the Dominican Republic and Costa
Rica due to their high demand, including plantains.
Tourism also brings in a large profit for Puerto Rico, but
it has overwhelmed San Juan and pushed many locals and
traditions out of the town.The efforts of this project are
to replenish the Puerto Rican culture to San Juan by using
La Puntilla to attract both tourists and locals.Through
layering locals and visitors, culture and tourism, history
and traditions, La Puntilla will be utilized to its fullest
extent.The concept of layering has been enforced in
master planning, site development, and finally plans, and
sections.
