A Weekend Camp!
Do you work with young people who can’t wait for Rawhide Ranch’s summer
camp? Try our Traditional Weekend Program! For many years, this program
has been a tradition at Rawhide Ranch and has Southern California youths
learning what it means to live and work on a ranch. The Traditional Weekend
Program picks up where summer camp leaves off in mid-September and runs
weekends through May.
During their two-night stay at the ranch, young people, or as we like to call them,
“ranchhands,” learn and practice fun subjects like animal and horse science,
horseback gymnastics (vaulting), and horseback riding. There’s even archery, a
rock climbing wall, and country dance classes! Ranchhands also work closely
with Rawhide Ranch Staff to care for our many animal residents. Activities like
feeding and watering the animals and cleaning their enclosures teaches
responsibility, pride, and teamwork. Campfires and evening activities like talent
shows, sing-alongs, and live entertainment keep ranchhands involved in the
heart of ranch life right up to lights out.
The Traditional Weekend Program is great for small groups up to groups of one
hundred, such as boy scout and girl scout troops, youth groups, church groups,
and school classes. Each group must include at least two adult chaperones. All

ranchhands must be at least seven years old by the group’s event date.
Depending on group size, ranchhands and their chaperones will stay in cabins at
Fort Rawhide or the Olde Schoolhouse. Cabins feature overhead lighting,
wooden bunkbeds, and covered mattresses. Adjacent to the housing areas are
modern restroom and shower facilities.
Rawhide Ranch’s Traditional Weekend Program is a unique weekend getaway
campers ages 7–15 will remember for years to come. Their chaperones have
