In Inver Grove Heights, the Rickert family has plans to build their
first home. The home will be enjoyable for the family and all of their
guests due to the unique, transitional design. Special accommodations
will be taken into consideration to incorporate an elevator, home
therapy room, and home gym for Josh, Ashlee and their son Levi who
suffers from a chronic disorder that is harmful to his brain. Energy and
movement, as well as earth tones, textures, and glass, will allow for
Josh, Ashlee, and Levi to have a functional and uplifting place to make
                     memories as a growing family.

consultants, writers, and graphic designers who create press releases, marketing
strategies, and media relations’ tactics. They are a progressive group and are
highly interactive. They rely on the team approach to their business, which has
proven successful for the company. The staff strives to cultivate their energetic
work style as well as maintain a professional image.

                                                Design Concept Statement
On the outskirts of downtown Minneapolis, an old building houses a full-
service public relations firm known as Hope & Hopkins. Hope & Hopkins
showcase the work of small to medium sized, conservative businesses and also
advertise products or activities hosted by businesses.
                         The staff at Hope & Hopkins may focus on different areas as individuals;
however, they all rely on each other and work as a team to successfully
complete their tasks at hand. With that, collaboration and interaction is
greatly encouraged. Their energetic work style continues to demonstrate their
achievements, and an open space will allow employees to work together.
To maintain their highly interactive work style, a variety of Haworth’s
systems furniture was arranged in such a way throughout the space to
promote a group effort and cooperation on projects. The professional

the use of a neutral color palette, including light grays, tans, and just a few
splashes of color. Because the building shell includes such a strong
architectural element, the curve was mimicked in the space to create

They generate news coverage about the activities, accomplishments, products, and HOPKINS expertise of small to medium sized businesses. Their staff consists of consultants, writers, and graphic designers who create press releases, marketing strategies, and media relations’ tactics. They are a progressive group and are highly interactive. They rely on the team approach to their business, which has proven successful for the company. The staff strives to cultivate their energetic work style as well as maintain a professional image. Design Concept Statement On the outskirts of downtown Minneapolis, an old building houses a full- service public relations firm known as Hope & Hopkins. Hope & Hopkins showcase the work of small to medium sized, conservative businesses and also advertise products or activities hosted by businesses. The staff at Hope & Hopkins may focus on different areas as individuals; however, they all rely on each other and work as a team to successfully complete their tasks at hand. With that, collaboration and interaction is greatly encouraged. Their energetic work style continues to demonstrate their achievements, and an open space will allow employees to work together. To maintain their highly interactive work style, a variety of Haworth’s systems furniture was arranged in such a way throughout the space to promote a group effort and cooperation on projects. The professional reputation that Hope & Hopkins has built for themselves will remain through the use of a neutral color palette, including light grays, tans, and just a few splashes of color. Because the building shell includes such a strong architectural element, the curve was mimicked in the space to create repetition and provide interest. This curved element will be covered in a multi- colored, textured, somewhat metallic wall covering to generate an attractive, PROGRAMMING unique feature. The space also contains a number of large windows that will provide natural daylight and be taken advantage of where possible. Natural light and this color scheme will provide the company with the fresh and PHASE energizing, yet classic and professional space Hope & Hopkins required.

SCHEMATIC LAYOUTS Client Profile Design Concept Statement Alexis and Cory Springer, in their mid-forties, and their four children The Springer residence is a home located in Portland, Oregon, and has existed have just relocated to a 1910 Arts & Crafts “Shingle House” in a small neighborhood outside of Portland, Oregon. They are looking to remodel the outdated kitchen and add a full bath, but they wish to maintain the since 1910. The home is an Arts & Crafts style home and the owners have chosen to maintain that historic style. In order to do this, the Springer’s chose to update the look of their kitchen and also renovate their mudroom into a bathroom. The south wall of NKBA historic “fabric” in style, finishes, and space planning. Their four children are very involved in sports, theater, school, and enjoy outings with their parents. The Springers are only a few blocks away from the original town this mudroom is an exterior wall, and currently there is a door located on it. Other than that door, no alterations to the room size and walls are allowed. With that little bit of background in mind, to renovate this mudroom into a BATHROOM park, which consists of a canopy of mature trees, playgrounds, and picnic fresh, warm, modern Art & Crafts style bathroom, I decided to research about the Arts facilities where they can watch the kids play. & Crafts era, and came up with a few ideas. Beginning with adding the basics to the Grandpa and Grandma Springer visit often to help with the children. bathroom, I included a nice Kohler toilet, a shower that includes a folding seat, storage Since the home only has three bedrooms, guests must sleep in the living as requested by the client, and also a nicely sized vanity with adjacent mirror and room on a pullout couch when visiting. The Springers want to remodel the sconces. mudroom into another full bath, so that guests do not have to go upstairs. To achieve the “modern” Arts & Crafts style that the clients were looking for, I decided to use some really flashy, yet warm, mosaic tiles in the shower. These tiles Requirements have an almost copper accent to them, and this will tie in well with the hammered •Remodel the mudroom into a full bathroom copper sink I specified for the custom-built vanity. The millwork in the space, which •Include toilet, sink, and shower includes the vanity and the adjacent floor to ceiling storage cabinet, will be of quartered •Include towel storage oak with a provincial stain—very popular during the Arts & Crafts movement. And •Keep the 1910 Arts & Crafts style with warm tones, period lighting, and finally I chose to warm up the entire space by adding a fresh coat of a golden toned stained woodwork paint to the walls as well as a neutral toned tile to the floors. After this renovation and •The dimensions of the mudroom and north door may NOT be altered the addition of radiant heated floors, this room will be a favorite for the Springer’s and •The south door is to the backyard and MAY be eliminated all of their guests.
