3. The speech of Brutus is that of a plain man. He
tries to convince the crowd with plain reason.
But the speech of Antony is that of a politician.
He convinces the crowd with his politics
emotion.
4. Brutus justifies the murder of Caesar. He
says that he loves Caesar but he loves his
country more. Had Caesar been alive he
would became tyrant. All Romans would
have became slaves.

As he was valiant, he honors him.
As Caesar became ambitious, he had
slain him. Thus Brutus attributes the

country.

bury Caesar, not to praise him.” Thus he
identifies himself with the mob. Little by little,
he pulls the crowd to his side.

services of Caesar to Rome.
Caesar filled the state treasury
with ransoms. Thrice Caesar
refused to accept the crown. Thus
Antony makes the crowd believe
that Caesar was not ambitious.
8. Antony talks about the murder.
He shows the holes in the
mantle made by the daggers of
Brutus and his men.
9. He shows a cut and calls
“This was the most unkindest
cut of all”. He indirectly
kindles the people to turn
against the conspirators.

whereas Antony speaks to the hearts of
people. Antony was not at the scene of the
murder. Yet he paints an emotional picture
of the gruesome act and it incites the mob.
