The Spread of Water-Recycling Technology for Drinking Use

  1. 1.  With eight offices across California, RMC Water and Environment is dedicated to solving complex water- related issues for its clients. From project planning and regulatory compliance to modeling and program management, the company offers a wide range of services. Because of its flat organizational structure, RMC Water and Environment is able to respond to the unique needs of its client communities for projects involving flood and storm water protection, wastewater treatment, and water recycling. With droughts and water shortages expected to affect half of the world in the next two decades, water recycling, or reclamation, technology is becoming more widespread
  2. 2.  In the United States, states more affected by drought, such as California, are directing resources to funding recycled water technology, the cost of which is steadily decreasing. There are several different techniques for water recycling, depending on the source of the water and its ultimate use. For instance, a new machine can take untreated feces and convert it to drinking water with an additional output of electricity and some ash.
  3. 3.  Whatever its source, recycled drinking water can be as clean, and sometimes even cleaner, than tap water in a developed country. Despite its safety, the largest hurdle for recycled drinking water to overcome is psychological: many people hesitate to drink water that was once full of sewage.
