This presentation, Rekindling the Altar of God, is an encouragement to believers to reignite the worship that God requires.
To the surprise of many, our modern day "altars" and altar calls do not line up with Scripture or the worship requirements of our Heavenly Father.

The Altar of God
1. The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar;
it shall never go out (Leviticus 6:13).
Altar
2. Hebrew origin, “a place of slaughter”
Latin word means “high”
Literally, “a high place of sacrifice”
A raised platform usually made of dirt, stones, carved
rocks, or elaborate articles of furniture
An elevated place or structure before which religious
ceremonies may be enacted or upon which sacrifices
may be offered
3. Built by Noah
Genesis 8:18-21
Constructed from the ground
No mention of an altar with Cain and Abel’s sacrifices
4. Altar of Atonement, Sacrifice
Exodus 27:1-8
The brazen altar, bronze altar or altar of sacrifice
Located inside the courtyard, upon entering the
Tabernacle gate
Made of acacia wood, overlaid with bronze
About 7.5 feet wide (each side) and 4.5 feet deep
5. Altar of Praise
Exodus 30:1-10; 34-38
Situated in front of the curtain, separating the Holy
Place from the Holy of Holies
About 1.5 feet wide (each side) and 3 feet high
Accessible only by priests
Reserved for the burning of incense
7. The Brazen Altar
Ultimate atonement sacrifice delivered through Christ
Believers are living sacrifices by the Spirit
Brazen altar no longer needed
Altar of Incense
Royal priesthood now established with all believers
Prayers of the saints offer aroma to God
Physical altars are no longer necessary!
8. First Christian churches were private homes or
community buildings
No altars in early New Covenant churches
Large edifices erected with Roman adoption of
Christianity in 4th century
Separation evolved between clergy and laymen,
reinstating a “priest”
Catholic expansion and Protestant movement (16th
century) fortified tiered worship methods
Altar replaced, in many modern churches, by
communion table or pulpit table
Ultimately, no biblical purpose served
9. Birthed in the 19th century
Charles Finney crusades, 1830
Designed to “force” decisions
Not a biblical concept or requirement
Not practiced by the Apostles
Spiritual invitations extended in the early church,
without need to physically step forward
Not required in today’s church
Focus on faith, repentance and confession
Acts 2:38; 3:19; Romans 10;8-10; 2 Corinthians 5:20
10. Confusion caused by churches who utilize altars
Use will always be erroneous for those who follow
Christ
Provokes elitist atmosphere, since only designated
leaders have open “access” to the altar
Erroneously portrays an altar as a place to receive rather
than a place to give
Teaches that the worst should be left to God, rather than
the best
Spreads the belief that a church or minister is required
before one can accept Christ; false dependence
11. The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar;
it shall never go out (Leviticus 6:13).
