is a Japanese public multinational conglomerate corporation
primarily known as a manufacturer of automobiles,
motorcycles and power equipment.
Honda has been the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer
since 1959, as well as the world's largest manufacturer
of internal combustio engines measured by volume,
producing more than 14 million internal combustion engines
each year. Honda became the second-largest Japanese
automobile manufacturer in 2001. Honda was the eighth
largest automobile manufacturer in the world behind General
Motors, Volkswagen Group, Toyota, Hyundai Motor
Group, Ford, Nissan, and PSA Peugeot Citroën in 2011.
Honda was the first Japanese automobile manufacturer to
release a dedicated luxury brand, Acura , in 1986. Aside from
their core automobile and motorcycle businesses, Honda
also manufactures garden equipment, marine engines,
personal watercraft and power generators, and other
products. Since 1986, Honda has been involved with artificial
intelligence/robotics research and released their ASIMO
robot in 2000. They have also ventured into aerospace with
the establishment of GE Honda Aero Engines in 2004 and
the Honda HA-420 HondaJet, which began production in
2012. Honda has three joint-ventures in China (Honda
China,Dongfeng Honda, and Guangqi Honda).
In 2013, Honda invested about 5.7% (US$6.8 billion) of its
revenues in research and development. Also in 2013, Honda
became the first Japanese automaker to be a net exporter to
the United States, exporting 108,705 Honda and Acura
models, while importing only 88,357.

Honda Motors Co. Ltd., Japan. HRID is formed to carry out
Local Research and Development activities related to
Motorcycle & Power Products on the directions provided by
Honda R & D Co. Ltd. of Japan.
HRID was initially set up in India in the year 1998 as liaison
office of Honda R & D Co Ltd., Japan. Later a domestic
company was incorporated in the year 2003 to carry out R &
D operations in India.

Honda Motor India Pvt Ltd (HMI), the wholly owned

its operations on 1st December 2006 from its corporate

Manufacturing
HCIL's first manufacturing unit was set up at Greater Noida,
U.P in 1997. The green field project is spread across 150
acres and has an annual production capacity of 120,000
units. HCIL's second plant in Tapukara is the first car
manufacturing plant in the state of Rajasthan. The state-of
the art Power train and Press shop in Tapukara plant have
been operational since September 2008. This facility is
spread over 450 acres and has an annual production
capacity of 120,000 units. HCIL started the production of cars
from its Tapukara Plant from February 2014. This plant is the
culmination of the best manufacturing know-how and
practices gathered from Honda's global operations.
7. Car Manufacturing plants
HCIL's first manufacturing unit at Greater Noida commenced
operations in 1997. Setup at an initial investment of over ₹4.5
billion, the plant is spread over 150 acres (0.61 km2
). The
initial capacity of the plant was 30,000 cars per annum, which
was thereafter increased to 50,000 cars on a two-shift basis.
The capacity has further been enhanced to 100,000 units
annually as of 2008. This expansion led to an increase in the
covered area in the plant from 107,000 m² to over 130,000 m².
Honda setup its second plant in India at Tapukara in Alwar
District of Rajasthan ,spread over 450 acres with an
investment of ₹3526 crores. It operates under the ISO 9001
standard for quality management and ISO 14001 for
environment management.
