The concept has been proven in numerous small scale applications. The recent infusion of power cost from fossil fuels may convert this promising device into a major source of electric power generation. It is predicted that if the fuel cell clears a number of technical hurdles and proves financially viable, it could contribute 20,000MW power to the US grid, by the end of 1985.
