2. What is Failover?
Failover is a computing term with
many applications outside of
enterprise printing.
Failover occurs when an active
application malfunctions or
terminates and a standby system
picks up the slack.
Without failover, a single
malfunction would stop an entire
operation until it was resolved.

3. A Print Failover Solution
OM Plus can handle the failover load for any size organization.
When the primary printer fails, jams, runs out of paper, or has other
issues OM Plus can be configured to route the print job to a backup
device.

4. Why Choose OM Plus?
Without a proprietary output management system, you’ll likely be relying
the Windows Server print spooler instead.
Unfortunately, this system is inherently flawed when it comes to handling
print failover.

5. Problems with Windows Failover
When using the Windows Server print spooler, you cannot delete a faulty
job to let the other jobs in the queue print.
A faulty job can occur all-too easily, such as when a printer is turned off or a file
doesn’t get spooled properly.
If a technician is not promptly notified about the faulty job, it can cause significant
delays.
Oftentimes, the only solution is to purge the queue by restarting the
spooler service on the server.
This interrupts all the jobs managed by the server, enterprise wide!

6. How Does OM Plus Help?
Once the faulty job is received by OM Plus, a failover script can be used
that will send notification of the problem and then re-enable the queue so
the next job goes.
There is no interruption to other enterprise printing because the spooler is not hung
up like it is with the Windows spooler.
OM Plus capabilities can then be used to diagnose the specific problem
that caused the job to hang up in the spooler.
OM Plus also permits the administrator to easily re-submit the job for printing when
the problem has been resolved.
