This is the second set of slides for Boiler Part I, continuing to explain some of the main components of a heating system and how they work. Parts addressed in this set of slides include zone valve controller, circulator flanges, zone valve, ball valve, boiler drain, temperature gauge, fill valve, backflow preventer, boiler reset control and check valve.
2. There are many different components to each boiler heating system.
PexSupply.com can work with you to make sure you have all of the parts,
installation equipments and planning pieces needed for your next DIY project.

4. 11 – Zone Valve Controller
Zone valve controllers help organize wiring and
reduce problems caused by incorrect wiring
associated with conventional zone valve
installations.

5. 12 – Circulator Flanges
For proper installation of flanged circulator
pumps, flanges are necessary to connect to the
water line.

8. 15 – Boiler Drain
There are two types of boiler drains:
• Male (MIP)
• Female (FIP)
They are identified by the IPS threats on the inlet
side. Boiler drains are designed to drain the water
from a boiler and are useful for clearing away any
accumulated sediment in the boiler.
Boiler drains are typically used in laundry tubs and
washing machines.

9. 16 – Temperature Gauge
Pressure gauges and temperature gauges
measure the pressure or
temperature, respectively, of a liquid or gas in a
system.
Brass and stainless steel are commonly used to Shop Now:

10. 17 – Fill Valve
Fill valves are used to adjust the fill rate of
boilers by controlling boiler water feed
pressure. When used properly, fill valves
help prevent heating systems from over
pressurization.

11. 18 – Backflow Preventer
Backflow preventers are important to the
system because they prevent potential
hazards from harming the potable water
system. They stop fluids from the heating
system from flowing backwards into the
domestic water supply.
Each year there are over 10,000 reported
cases of backflow contamination.
Contaminations can be prevented by having
the right backflow preventer in place.

12. 19 – Boiler Reset Control
Boiler reset controls are used to help
regulate the temperature of the supply
water.

13. 20 – Check Valve
Check valves, also known as swing checks,
help guide the water flowing through your
system in the preferred direction.
Contaminated water is not allowed to flow back
into the system. In systems that are zoned by a
circulator, check valves also stop water from
flowing to zones that are not calling for heat
