I have decided to pursue a degree in education in hopes of one day becoming a high school math teacher, which may not have been the best option.
Since my decision, I have heard a myriad of reasons for why I should not become a teacher and I've even noticed some of these reasons myself. There
are many negatives to becoming a teacher, including the workload, being underappreciated, and the small pay. Also, I shouldn't become a teacher
because of my personal feelings and characteristics that aren't conducive to becoming a great teacher, such as having a short–temper and self–doubt.
One of the biggest reasons I shouldn't be a teacher is because I get easily stressed when presented with too much work and teachers have a large
workload. During my senior year of high school, my physics teacher, Mr. Smalley, told me that I should not be a teacher. He said that people believe
that teachers don't have to work as long as individuals in other professions, but this is untrue. When the school day is over, Mr. Smalley's work isn't
over. He has to prepare the lesson plan, grade papers, create tests, be available to answer any questions students have, attend conferences, and write
reports. This is a large amount of work that must be completed outside of the classroom, which takes a toll on Mr. Smalley's personal life. He doesn't

and understanding rather than for punishment. Praise would often be given in front of the class, but I feel that punishment should take place one on
one. Reinforcement and modifications would also be used to prepare the kids for the rest of their adult lives. In order to be most effective with these

  • 1. Why I Should Not Be A Teacher Essay I have decided to pursue a degree in education in hopes of one day becoming a high school math teacher, which may not have been the best option. Since my decision, I have heard a myriad of reasons for why I should not become a teacher and I've even noticed some of these reasons myself. There are many negatives to becoming a teacher, including the workload, being underappreciated, and the small pay. Also, I shouldn't become a teacher because of my personal feelings and characteristics that aren't conducive to becoming a great teacher, such as having a short–temper and self–doubt. One of the biggest reasons I shouldn't be a teacher is because I get easily stressed when presented with too much work and teachers have a large workload. During my senior year of high school, my physics teacher, Mr. Smalley, told me that I should not be a teacher. He said that people believe that teachers don't have to work as long as individuals in other professions, but this is untrue. When the school day is over, Mr. Smalley's work isn't over.
