Ethnography is a Social science research method. It is the primary data collection method. It is mainly combined with social background. A qualitative approach that studies the cultural patterns and perspectives of participants in their natural setting. Ethnography came from Greek, it identifies its roots in sociology and anthropology. *Ethnos = People *Graphing = Writing “Ethnography literally means ‘a portrait of a people’. Ethnography is a written description of a particular culture, the custom, belief and behaviour based on information collected through field work.” (Harris and Johnson 2000).

What is Social Research Social research is the combination of Three Words “Social” means society “Re” means again and again and “Search” means to discover, to find and to investigate. Social research is a procedure to investigate the social problems and issues and also it helps us to find the causes and give solution for problems which are faced by society. Social Research is a method used by social scientists and researchers to learn about people and societies. social research works to answer many of the questions we have about human behavior. Through scientific study, social research seeks to understand the how and why of human behavior. Social research is a systematic and logical pursuit made by human beings to find out knowledge from any “phenomenon or relationship”. Definitions of Social Research Webster’s Dictionary: “defines it as a careful and critical investigation in the light of newly discovered facts. Johoda: “It is a continuous investigation for facts is order to solve a problematic situation”, Roger Bennet: “Research is the discovering of facts through systematic and scientific process. Fogg: “It is the systematic process of pre-planned inquiry”. Objectives of Social Research To discover new ideas To collect data about an issue, problem or social phenomena. To provide principles for problems. Provide knowledge for the solution of a problem. To remove social tension, misconception, and myths. To find new ideas and verify old ideas. To give logical and rational ideas. Importance of Social Research Identifying the causes of social problems: social research logically finds the causes of problems from grass root level. Solution of problems: by the help of Social Research we an be able to effectively solve a particular problem . New ideas and techniques: social research provides new ideas and technique to solving the individuals, groups, and communities problems. To develop theories. Many social scientist haves presented their theories through social research. All social, psychological, and environmental theories had been depended on social research. Increase knowledge: social research is also consider as source of knowledge increase. It increases the knowledge of human being.

This session brings together scientists interested in the physical anthropology of populations from the Yucatan Peninsula. Most presentations, whether in skeletal or in living populations, address the relationship between living conditions and health. Studies in skeletal populations tell us the story of how well local populations adapted in pre-Columbian times. The studies with living populations speak of the ontogenetic effect of modern nutritional environments and their impact in future generations.

Research Objective Research is an organized investigation of a problem in which there is an attempt to gain solution to a problem. To get right solution of a right problem, clearly defined objectives are very important. Clearly defined objectives enlighten the way in which the researcher has to proceed. What is Research Objective? A research objective is a clear, concise, declarative statement, which provides direction to investigate the variables. Generally research objective focus on the ways to measure the variables , such as to identify or describe them. Sometime objectives are directed towards identifying the relationship or difference between two variables. Research objective are the results sought by the researcher at the end of the research process, i.e. what the researcher will be able to achieve at the end of the research study. The objectives of a research project summarize what is to be achieved by the study. Objective should be closely related to the statement of the problem. CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH OBJECTIVES Research objectives is a concrete statement describing what the research is trying to achieve. A well-worded objective will be SMART, i.e Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, & Time-bound. Research objective should be Relevant, Feasible, Logical, Observable, Unequivocal & Measurable. Objective is a purpose that can be reasonably achieved within the expected timeframe &with the available resources. The objective or research project summarizes what is to be achieved by the study. The research objectives are the specific accomplishment the researchers hopes to achieve by the study The objective include obtaining answers to research questions or testing the research hypothesis. Why need Research Objectives? The formulation of research objectives will help researcher to: With clearly defined objectives, the researchers can focus on the study. Avoid the collection of data which are not strictly necessary for understanding & solving problem that he or she has defined. The formulation of objectives organize the study in clearly defined parts or phases. Properly formulated, specific objectives will facilitate the development of research methodology & will help to orient the collection, analysis, interpretation, &utilization of data. Types of Research Objectives General Objective General objectives are broad goals to be achieved. The general objectives of the study state what the researcher expects to achieve by the study in general terms. General objectives are usually less in number.

Introduction to Methods in Cultural Anthropology In this topic, you will explore how anthropologists conduct research with a special focus on ethics in anthropology. You will also have an opportunity to develop your own research proposal in Activity 1. Please note that you have 5 Activities due in this class ( If you are taking the class as the 8 week option you have 3 activities and if you are taking the class as a 12 week option you have four activities). Please note that no matter what option you are taking, you do end up doing all the work of the acitivies but in a different format). Due dates for the activities are noted on the When Assignments are Due page. Be sure to allow adequate time to complete. Please review all the assignments now and make plans in your schedule to work on them. These assignments are meant to help you learn the material as well as give you an opportunity to show what you are learning beyond just quizzes and exams. Horizontal Rule Objectives After completing the learning activities for this topic, you will be able to: List, define, and apply the steps in conducting fieldwork. Describe and cite examples of data-gathering techniques. Analyze the nature of ethical dilemmas in anthropological field work. Click on the image below to view a photo gallery. How Anthropologists Do Research -- The Importance of Ethics Written by Dr. Katherine R. Rowell, Professor of Sociology, Sinclair Community College Your textbook discusses the 5 steps of conducting anthropological research or fieldwork. I typically add another step in the beginning known as preparation. Thus, there are six steps to conducting anthropological fieldwork. In fact, the first step, preparation, is important for anyone visiting another culture or working with people from another culture. Step 1: Preparation Preparing to conduct research on a different culture or visit another culture can be time consuming. One of the most important issues is geographical location of the culture you plan to visit or study. There are funding issues, health precautions (shots and medications), governmental permissions (visas and passports), language issues (Do you have an interpreter? or Do you know the language?), Personal affairs (Who is going to pay your bills? Feed your cat?), Packing issues (How much are you allowed to take? What items are a necessity?) and finally, do you have an informant and a site to do research? (Someone within that culture to help you with your research or help you on your visit). These issues take a lot of time to work out and are an important first step. Step 2: Selecting a Research Problem In the past the goal of anthropological research was to describe a culture in as much detail as possible (ethnography). Today, the research is typically problem based. For example, when I went to Botswana, Swaziland, and South Africa my goal was to understand the AIDS crisis and compare approaches to reducing HIV/AIDS in these countries. Often times the re.

Hi, I need help with my Sociology ETHNOGRAPHIC project. here is the information: THE TOPIC CHOSED FOR ME WAS DIFFERENCE OF CULTURE, bRAZILIAN CULTURE X AMERICAN CULTURE. WAY TO TALK, DEALLING WITH NEW PEOPLE... plese must need to follow the steps and instructuions This assignment requires you to go out into "the world" and do ethnographic study to explore a social or cultural issue of particular interest to you. You will need to think about four major areas as you develop your project idea and engage in ethnography: Research Topic: (the people, place and phenomenon for research) Possibilities for research may include: Something familiar: If you choose something familiar to you, an organization you belong to or your place of work, for example, try to look at it as if it were strange. Step back. Imagine that you don't know what's going on. Ask some new questions of the situation. If you choose something unfamiliar , try to figure out how it makes sense, what is the logic guiding it, what are the assumptions that you have to understand in order to understand what is going on. A social event: Your project could be an analysis of a ceremony (wedding, quinceniera, or baptism) a social gathering, a place where people come together for one purpose only, like a bus station or a hair salon. You could look at a group that you are a member of--a club, a performing group, a religious organization or even your work place. Or you could choose a topic with which you are not already connected. You can begin by looking around at places where people congregate or thinking about groups that you are already a part of. A cultural phenomenon: Your project could also be an analysis of a specific cultural phenomenon: traditional healing and home remedies; the preparation of a certain ethnic or family dish; rituals associated with preparation and playing team sports; religious practices associated with particular observances. 2. Research Questions: What are you investigating about this topic? What do you want to find out? What are the questions that you want to ask the individuals involved? Formulate questions that you think you may want to ask your informants about your topic. If you consider yourself a part of this group, think of the aspects that you will want to know more about. These preliminary questions will be listed in your worksheet but once you begin your fieldwork, they may change or you may find additional questions that are relevant to ask. 3. Ethnographic Methods : These are the ways to investigate the issues that interest you in context of the particular topic you have chosen. You will probably use some combination of participation, observation, and interviews. You MUST get consent from your informant(s). If they want to remain anonymous, then you can just refer to them as “Informant #1”, “Informant #2”, etc. 4. Anthropological Analysis This will include the d iscussion of topic, your interpretations of the research and it will.

Assignment: Surveys and Response Rates As you read in Chapter 1, research designed to assess and answer questions about the current state of affairs is descriptive research. It is called descriptive research because no variables are manipulated (as you would find in an experimental research design). Rather, the goal of descriptive research is to provide a snapshot of thoughts, beliefs, or behaviors of groups of people at a given time. One common type of descriptive research is survey research. A survey is a type of self-report measure that can be administered either through an interview or written questionnaire. Interviews are surveys in which researchers read questions to participants either in person or by telephone. The questions are either structured or unstructured. When using a structured interview technique, the researcher predetermines the questions to ask participants and records their responses. An example of a structured interview technique is a phone call during the evening at home requesting a “few minutes of your time” to ask your opinions about candidates in an upcoming political election. In an unstructured interview, the researcher asks the respondents to talk freely about a particular topic and records their answers. An example of an unstructured interview technique is a focus group setting, wherein a number of people meet at the same time to share their thoughts and opinions about a particular topic, such as their emotional reactions to viewing advertising campaigns. Questionnaires are different from interviews because participants complete these assessments on their own, and usually without supervision. The other difference is that participants complete questionnaires in a fixed-format. This means participants answer questions in the exact same order and select their answers from various response choices provided (e.g., multiple choice or true/false) rather than freely reporting what comes to mind. An example of a questionnaire is a poll located in a magazine questioning you about your present satisfaction in your romantic relationship. Consider the last time you were asked to complete a survey either by interview or questionnaire. Did you participate? Why, or why not? Though survey methods are a good way to collect a lot of data quickly, participants are not always eager to take the time and effort required to complete them. For this Assignment, you select a particular survey method to collect data on a study idea. You analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the method and consider strategies for increasing participant response rates. To prepare Review again the assigned pages from Chapter 6 and Chapter 8 of your course text. Think about the study idea that you developed for the Discussion this week. Think about what types of data you would collect utilizing various survey methods (e.g., interviews and questionnaires, focus groups). Consider strategies researchers use to attempt to increase the participant response ...

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. About the author With two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.

The action of the next cyber saga takes place in the mystical lands of the Asia-Pacific region, where the main characters began their digital activities in the middle of 2021 and qualitatively strengthened it in 2022. Corporate espionage, document theft, audio recordings, and data leaks from messaging platforms were all a matter of one day for Dark Pink. Their geographical focus may have started in the Asia-Pacific region, but their ambitions knew no bounds, targeting a European government ministry in a bold move to expand their portfolio. Their victim profile was as diverse as a UN meeting, targeting military organizations, government agencies, and even a religious organization. Because discrimination is not a fashionable agenda. In the world of cybercrime, they serve as a reminder that sometimes the most serious threats come in the most unassuming packages with a pink bow.
