Highlights were people are most likely to fall.
The most likely place of all is on the stairs
Many people fall at the last step thinking they are already at the bottom of the stairs. This is sometimes due to poor lighting or impaired eyesight
Accidents happen in other people’s houses (for example when visiting children) where surroundings are unfamiliar
Carrying something often contributes, particularly on stairs
Slippers are often loose and lead to a trip or stumble and then a fall
Alcohol may contribute to many more falls where it is not mentioned
People trip over all sorts of things including children and pets
Other reasons include rushing to the toilet, not turning on the light at night and poor eyesight.
Avoid reaching for things that are high up
Or things that are low down
Look out for things that can make you trip, like edges of carpets
Trailing cables, or
Loose mats and rugs
Make sure you have handrails where you need them
And that you were appropriate footwear
Fit a letter cage so that you don’t have to bend down to pick up the post

Always fit locks with a British Standard kite mark – it may invalidate your insurance if you don’t
Double glazing is much harder to break
Never leave doors unlocked, or leave windows open when you got out
Always ask for ID, and check if you’re unsure
Never leave a key under a doormat
Always use the security chain
