benefit of a community-based nonprofit
organization off campus

Career Services
– Hours are submitted through website
– Evaluated/ verified by Career Services/
Leadership and Service and awarded if
meet criteria
– Can win awards depending on how
many hours are awarded

upper-classmen (sophomore-
graduate students)
• Partner: Boys and Girls Club of
Pensacola
• Halloween Carnival for children
ranging in age from 5-17 years old
• Over 30 students in attendance

The process of examining
and interpreting
experience to gain new
understanding and is vital
to successful service-
learning experiences

• Genuine learning about individual values and
goals and larger social issues.
• Challenges students to connect service
activities to course objectives
• to develop critical thinking skills.
• Works against the perpetuation of
stereotypes.
• Students will remain committed to service
throughout life if they develop a sense of
community.
