1. Philosophy of Education
As an educator I am inclined to continue to be a learner through out my career.
While doing so, my idea of teaching revolves around enriching my students’ appetite for
learning and growing as people. Identifying each individual learning style and catering
to it will be a challenge that is vital to master in my classroom. I also believe it is the
teacher’s responsibility to (1) create an atmosphere where the students feel safe and
excited to take risks (2) encourage students to explore their curiosity and creativity (3)
maintain a professional demeanor while congruently acting as a guide and roll model. I
will back this up with consistency. This is important in fairness, punishment, grading,
structure, and reinforcement. Overall, I will continue to grow and adapt as an educator
in the ever-changing, inclusive classroom.
One of my goals is to facilitate a learning atmosphere where my students feel
safe to come on a daily basis. In my classroom, no matter the circumstances at home,
each student will feel as if our classroom is their base to branch out of their comfort
zone. In order to learn, we must be put in new situations, asses, modify, plan, and
execute. Each student will learn to understand that everyone is different but more
importantly, valuable. In a comfortable and respectful environment, my students will be
eager to try new things and enthusiastic about taking risks in education.
With a more than adequate atmosphere, I will teach my students that creativity
and curiosity are applauded. While it is important to relay tangible knowledge, I also find
learning through experiences crucial. A well-rounded student leads to prosperity. When
indulging in creative, engaging, relatable activities, students learn without even knowing
they are doing so. That is the art of teaching. Each student has a different perspective
to offer to the world and our class, including myself, will make sure that does not go
unnoticed.
Finally, it is my duty to continue to grow as a teacher and I will accomplish that by
being a life-long learner. Through out my career I will continuously attend professional
development opportunities. It is imperative to be as “up-to-date” as possible, and to
continue learning new and improved strategies for the classroom. As I am expecting my
students to never stop saturating their minds with experience and knowledge, I will hold
myself to the same standards.
Teaching provides an opportunity for growing and self-discovery for my students,
as well as myself. With consistency, creativity, and commitment I strive to have each
and every student leave my classroom more comfortable with themselves and more
equipped for being a life-long-learner.
