Personal Career Introduction:
I believe that I have experienced a varied and challenging career since joining the NHS in 1979,
including:
Sixteen years as a paediatric nurse and manager
Four years in the private healthcare sector as a clinician and national training manager
Two years working in partnership with academic and health-provider stakeholders to develop
clinical placements for: student nurses, Occupational Therapists and Speech & Language
Therapists
Two years Managing a pilot Graduate Management Training Scheme (informatics specialism)
leading to its addition to the existing NHS scheme
Twelve years working at regional and national levels delivering integrated educational and
organisational workforce development programmes to the NHS.
Maintaining a working relationship since 2008 with the NHS Leadership Academy as a regular
interviewer and assessor for the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme
I enjoy working with people and can offer a wide range of transferable skills, knowledge and
capabilities that would be of great value to your organisation.
I have developed strong verbal and written communication skills throughout my career and have
experience of communicating with people at all levels within organisations in many situations
including; chairing meetings, planning and delivering workshops, speaking at conferences and one to
one situations. You could rely on me to communicate and liaise with your stakeholders in a confident,
informed professional manner.
I will bring experience of complex strategic thinking and working at a national level as well as
programme and project management skills ensuring effective outcomes for any organisation.
My experience of working with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical NHS and social care staff,
private sector partners and colleagues from the academic world will provide a unique mix of
experience to draw on and utilise.
I bring excellent experience of creating and managing a wide variety of strategic, business and project

involved liaising with suppliers and NHS stakeholders at a strategic level to plan learning and

national IT and information management systems solutions.

Lead for Communication and Practice-based Education
Devon & Cornwall Workforce Development Confederation (now abolished)
Worked in partnership with acute and primary care services and the University of Plymouth to
develop new systems to support education and training for undergraduate healthcare
students as part of a workforce planning process.
April 1996 to September 2000
Nurse Clinician / National Training Manager
Clinovia Ltd (bought out by Bupa Home Healthcare)
Managed a caseload of patients at home on complex therapies including intravenous therapy
and manual ventilation across the South West of the UK and acting as an expert in all clinical
areas in support of the sales team.
Trained, assessed and supported a national team of nurses delivering care whilst managing a
24 hour on-call service and taking responsibility for the development and management of all
clinical standard operating procedures.
Prior Roles:
Prior to the roles listed above I have had a 16 year career as a student, staff and charge nurse in
Manchester and Torbay working in paediatrics.
