1. Reduce: minimizing generation of waste
in the first place: avoid unnecessary
purchasing, packaging, minimise rejects
2. Reuse: using items again for the original
purpose or a different purpose
3. Recycle/Recover: discarded items or
their parts are utilized as inputs for
other products/processes

7. Benefits of the 3R
• Waste means resources are not used in the best way
 reducing waste helps improving efficiency
• The 3R looks for the root cause of the waste
problem :
‘What to do with waste?’
‘How do we reduce waste?’
• Reducing waste has a better impact on the
environment than recycling
