3. Key Differentiators against other major Competitors in this space (AWS & Azure)Note
Key Differentiators
Google has a significant advantage in AI & Machine learning : Google Cloud's AI provides modern machine
learning services, with pre-trained models and a service to generate client tailored models. Sundar Pichai, CEO,
said on a recent earnings call: “Machine learning is a core, transformative way by which we’re re-thinking how
we’re doing everything.” GCP provides pre-trained models along with a huge list of supported APIs
1
Lower Costs : At an high level, GCP’s costs are around 15 to 30% cheaper than major competitors.
GCP charges are applicable by the minute (A minimum of 10 mins. is charged),whereas AWS rounds
upwards to the nearest hour. Paying upfront in AWS required to avail deep discounts for reserved
instances, but in a lot of circumstances, it is very difficult to forecast which servers will be required
after one year. GCP discounts are retrospective. UPDATE: AWS also provides per second billing for
EC2
2
Experience in handling extremely large data sets: GCP excels at supporting developer-centric
applications, high compute workloads like data analytics, petabyte scale data processing, and burst
computing. Google uses GCP internally to support high-demand services such as Gmail, YouTube,
Maps and Search.
3
Excellent Scaling Capabilities : GCE Load balancers are very scalable and don’t require any
instance pre-warming like AWS.
4
Serverless Computing : AWS’ Lambda offers far more robust capabilities than Google Cloud functions
which has just exited Beta state.
Archiving Functions: Google’ NearLine and ColdLine offer sub second latency access to archived files
compared to Glacier that strings it out for hours.
5
The Landscape
and features
offered by the
Public Cloud
Service providers
are continuously
updated.
Hence, these
points of
differentiation for
Google Cloud
Platform (referred
as GCP) are
based on a point in
time study and
they are likely to
change as Google
continues to
evolve their
platform

5. Latency sensitive needs
Anti-patterns for Cloud Adoption
3
Governance and/or External Regulatory Constraints2
Unstable network conditions and/or Low Bandwidth1
Listed below are some use cases, where suitability for moving to Cloud needs to be evaluated.
Specialty Hardware, Software and/or Configuration requirements (e.g. AIX, Solaris based apps),
Non x86 platforms such as SPARC
4
Understanding the Security aspects & business risks (e.g. Information Security aspects, protecting
information about business processes which are very confidential, etc)
5
Overall Cost & ROI should be positive. Overall Change Management (People & processes) & Org.
readiness need to be evaluated before embarking onto cloud
