currently plays for Barcelona and the Argentine national team. He is one of the best
football players of his generation and is frequently considered as the world's best
contemporary player. Lionel Messi, whose playing style and ability have drawn
comparisons to Diego Maradona, received Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of

the youngest footballer to play a league game, and also the youngest to score a league goal. Major
honours soon followed as Barcelona won La Liga in Messi's debut season, and won a double of the
league and Champions League in 2006. His breakthrough season was in 2006–07; he became a first
team regular, scoring a hat-trick in El Clásico and finishing with 14 goals in 26 league games. Perhaps

Sunday morning a few days ago. When I was about to have my
routine cup of coffee along with a bagel, I realized that I did not have any
bread at all. I have to admit that I am unable to enjoy coffee without some
kind of baked goods.
Then I decided to run out to buy something, but all the stores were
closed, but one. That store did not have any fresh pastries, and I ended up
buying four slices of wheat bread. I was frustrated for two reasons:
firstly, I couldn‘t enjoy drinking my coffee on Sunday morning; and secondly, the sales woman
charged me $3.00 for four slices of bread!
Next, I returned to the building where I live on the tenth floor, stepped into the elevator, pushed
the button, and got out. When I reached my apartment and tried to unlock the door, I could not turn the
key. I made a few attempts without success. I started banging on the door hoping to wake up my daughter.
I was not successful at that either.
I can‘t explain how it crossed my mind to check the number of the apartment. The apartment
number was correct, except for the first digit: the apartment was on the ninth floor, but the tenth. I was
shocked to realize that I had been banging on somebody else‘s door.
I still muse over what might have happened if somebody had opened the door and what he or she
would have said to me at 8:00 am on Sunday morning.

was already here in Padang. I know it must be very hard for you and your family, but time heals all
wounds. Just remember him the way he was: caring, understanding, and so full of life.
Take good care of yourself, will you, and if you and your family need me for anything, just call
me, okay? I’ll be back next week.
Yours,
Mira

My Day at the Beach
Last week my friend and I were bored after three weeks of holidays,
so we rode our bikes to Nyamplung Beach, which is only five kilometres from
where I live. When we arrived at the beach, we were surprised to see there
was hardly anyone there. After having a quick dip in the ocean, which was
really cold, we realized one reason there were not many people there. It was
also quite windy.
After we bought some hot chips at the takeaway store nearby, we rode our bikes down the beach
for a while, on the hard, damp part of the sand. We had the wind behind us and, before we knew it, we
were many miles down the beach. Before we made the long trip back, we decided to paddle our feet in the
water for a while, and then sat down for a rest. While we were sitting on the beach, just chatting, it
suddenly dawned on us that all the way back, we would be riding into the strong wind.
When we finally made it back home, we were both totally exhausted! But we learned some good
lessons that day.

SOAL – SOAL NARRATIF
Along while ago a tortoise sat on the dusty land and watched the birds
wheeling and circling in the air over his head. He grew dissatisfied with his lowly
life when he saw so many of them enjoying themselves in the clear blue sky; he
longed to join them and share their freedom.‖ If only I could get myself up into the

Once upon a time, there was a poor little boy came into a little village.
He was very hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked for some
food, but nobody cared about him. Nobody wanted to help the little boy.
Finally, a generous woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal.
When the boy wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a ―lesung‖, a big
wooden mortar for pounding rice. She reminded him, ―please remember, if there
is a flood you must save yourself. Use this ―lesung‖ as a boat‖. the boy was happy
and thanked the old woman.
The little boy continued his journey. While he was passing through the village, he saw many people
gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to
pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. ―Can I try?‖ asked the little boy. The crowd laughed
mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very
easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.
Suddenly, from the hole left by the stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it flooded the village.
And no one was safe from the water except the little boy and the generous old woman who gave him shelter and
meal. As she told him, he used the ―lesung‖ as a boat and picked up the old woman.
The whole village became a huge lake. It is now known as Rawa Pening Lake in Salatiga, Central Java,
Indonesia.

Jellyfish are not really fish. They are invertebrate animals. This means that unlike fish or people,
they have no backbones. In fact, they have no bones at all.
Jellyfish have stomachs and mouths, but no heads. They have nervous systems
for sensing the world around them, but no brains. They are made almost entirely of
water, which is why you can look through them.
Some jellyfish can glow in darkness by making their own light. The light is
made by a chemical reaction inside the jellyfish. Scientists believe jellyfish glow for
several reasons. For example, they may glow to scare away predators or to attract
animals they like to eat.
Most jellyfish live in salt water, apart from a few types that live in fresh water. Jellyfish are found in
oceans and seas all over the world. They live in warm, tropical seas and in icy waters near the North and
South poles.

I had never been camping before I met my best friend, Jacklyn.
I didn‘t know that camping meant sleeping out in nature, in a tent. I
guess I didn‘t really think about it at all.
We were off to a nearby campground. We drove in and paid for
our site. It was beautiful. There were ducks and a small lake and up on
the hill there was a pool and small store if you needed anything.
At dusk we lit our fire. It was very nice and pleasant. However I had a small allergy problem with
mosquitoes. I hate bugs, and mosquitoes seem to be the worse, due to their stinging and being irritating. It
was awful, but the camp fire was nice. Jacklyn told me about her camping stories. They were really
interesting.
After a full night of stories and fire, we settled in out the tent. We slept in our sleeping bags on the
ground. To my surprise, the ground was not wet, and we had a small air mattress under us. Of course, the
mattress wasn‘t as comfortable as mine at home but it was no problem.
Then in the middle of the night I heard scuffling just out of our tent. I woke Jacklyn and I told her that
there was a bear in our camp. She told me to just go back to sleep. I really didn‘t know that there were
bears in local camp grounds.
The next morning I woke to the same noises and found the culprit. It was ducks. I felt so stupid.
To this day we still talked about my first camping trip.
It was a very memorable experience.

Snakes are reptiles (cold-blooded creatures). They belong to the same group as lizards (the scaled
group, Sumatra) but form a sub-group of their own (Serpents).
Snakes have two legs but long time ago they had claws to help them slither along. Snakes are not slimy.
They are covered in scales which are just bumps on the skin. Their skin is hard and glossy to reduce
friction as the snake slithers along the ground.
Snakes often sun bake on rocks in the warm weather. This is because snakes are cold-blooded and
they need the sun‘s warmth to heat their body up. Most snakes live in the country. Some types of snakes
live in trees; some live in water, but most live on the ground in deserted rabbit burrows, in thick, long
grass and in old logs. A snake‘s diet usually consists of frogs, lizard, and mice and other snakes.
Many snakes protect themselves with their fangs. Boa Constrictors can give you a bear hug which
is so powerful it can crush every single bone in your body. Some snakes are protected by scaring their
enemies away like the Cobra.
The Flying snakes glide away from danger. Their ribs…apart and the skin stretches out. Its technique is
just like the sugar glider‘s.
9. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. The general classification of snakes
B. How snakes protect themselves
C. The description of their bodies
D. The habit of snake

What is the Significance of Rabbits‘ Large Ears
A rabbit is a small furry mammal with a short tail and pointed ears.
Rabbits live in burrow in the ground. Each burrow is the home of a single family.
The first fossil which can be attributed to this family came from North America
but now they are found in every part of the world. Compared to its small body
rabbit has large-sized ears.
A rabbit is a weak and timid animal and is always surrounded by many enemies. Therefore nature
has gifted it with large ears to help it to hear even the fun of drop sound. The large area of the ear catches
almost every sound wave produced in the air and transfers them into the inner ear. This makes the rabbit
to detect its enemies in time and run to safety zones.
You must have noticed that a rabbit washes its ears by repeatedly licking its forepaws and rubbing
them over the surface of its ears. It does this in order to keep its ears clean, and also to take into its mouth
natural oil which surrounds the ear surface. This oil is important in forming vitamin D which is necessary
for the growth of healthy bones. If the rabbit is not allowed to form this, it will develop rickets.

Erosion is a slow process of the loosening of soil, sands and rocks from the land. There are
two causes of erosion. First, water may be the cause of erosion. Heavy rain falls on sloping land.

Second, wind also becomes the cause of erosion. The wind blows soil away from places where

Plants help protect land from erosion. Their roots absorb water and hold soil in place. If the plants
are destroyed, a large amount of soil or sand can be blown away.

the name of the ocean was panthallassa (all seas).
There were many kinds of dinosaurs. Some of them were very big and some others were small. Some
dinosaurs ate leaves and some others ate meat. Some dinosaurs could fly.
