Promotional ellie goulding

  1. 1. Ellie Goulding is being interviewed by James Lincoln on her sophomore album, Halcyon, which is a follow on from her album in 2010 Lights. He starts off the interview by mentioning Ellie's album straight away; "I understand you recorded the majority of the Halycon in a converred barn in your hometown". This shows what the interview is exactly going to be about and what she is trying promote by doing the interview. James asks certain questions to try and get the personal side out of the songs within the album " Is it painful or liberating to sing lyrics strongly associated with a break-up night after night?" "Is halcyon meant to characerize your current state of mind?" James Lincoln mainly asks open questions to Ellie, she goes into detail with majority of the questions which he asks. for example; 'LINCOLN: "Halcyon" is defined as "calm, peaceful, or tranquil," though. Is "halcyon" meant to characterize your current state of mind? GOULDING: I mean, I guess. The idea behind Halcyon is also days of youth and happiness and joy, and I like the idea that there can be days that are really happy and really peaceful. I don't know, I suppose Halcyon relates to hopefulness. I like the idea of one day there being peacefulness and happiness.' Majority of the questions Ellie answers she goes into detail especially about her new album this can help her promote it She also tells James how personal the album is to her, reading the interview shows he's listening to the answers, he shows this because their are some follow-up questions; 'LINCOLN: You attribute a big chunk of your success to your best friend and manager, Jamie Lillywhite. Is he a best friend first and a manager second, or the other way around?' (Once Ellie answers he asks;) 'LINCOLN: Speaking of interesting relationships, you're currently dating American electronic musician, Skrillex. I don't mean this to come off as offensive in any way, but he has quite the intimidating persona. Does he have a softer side fans don't get to see?' He uses follow up questions quiet a lot throughout the interview. He also goes off topic once in the interview which shows he wanted to find out other information other than her album; 'LINCOLN: That's great to hear, especially coming from you. Sticking in the love domain, tell me about your experience performing at the Royal Wedding—hailing from England, I can imagine it was extra special to be included in Will and Kate's big day. GOULDING: It was. I still don't feel like it actually happened. I was veryhonored to be asked. I really still can't believe it, and I think me and my band will have that as one of the best nights of our lives. LINCOLN: Did you have to dress more conservatively for that crowd?' James asks Ellie questions about her self which makes him sound more interested in her and like he wants to know small things. He asks one closed question throughout the interview; 'LINCOLN: Do you run with an iPod?' Once he she answers this question he carries in on by asking more detailed question about what music she likes listening to when she goes running. 'LINCOLN: I was hoping you'd say that. What's your favorite pump-up tune to listen to while running?' 'GOULDING: I love this DJ Fresh song—"Hypercaine," it's called, and it's a Nero remix. It's just the best running song.' James uses more than one technique around this part of he interview he uses around 5 follow- up questions after each other and each question is open. He ends the interview with a question
  2. 2. for Ellie to promote her album more and to see if she wants to add anything in which she hasn't said about it; 'LINCOLN: Is there anything you'd like to leave your fans with in terms of your creative vision behind Halcyon? Or perhaps where your head was at when you wrote it?'
