phrase originates from the myth that birds of the genus Cygnus sing before
they die. The Scottish cleric Jon Willison used the expression in one of his
Scripture Songs, 1767, where he refers to "King David's ____-____", the

In 1911, French psychologists Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon created the first modern intelligence
test, which calculated IQ based on whether children could accomplish tasks like pointing to their
nose and counting pennies. The concept of "IQ" followed soon after.. Any child with an IQ of above
70 was considered "normal," while kids above 130 were considered "gifted." To deal with kids
below 70, psychologists invented a nomenclature of retardation.

sound effect began in a scene in which a group of soldiers wade through a
swamp, and one of them lets out a piercing scream as an alligator drags
him underwater. In the early '70s, a group of budding sound designers at

designer Ben Burtt—recognized that the unique scream kept popping up in

twenty dual Rugby World Cup winners.
