ďManagement is the administration of an organization, whether it is a business, a not-for-
profit organization, or government body.
ďManagement includes the activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating
the efforts of its employees (or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the
application of available resources, such as financial, natural, technological, and human
resources.
ď The term "management" may also refer to those people who manage an organizationâ
managers.

This principle of management is based
on the theory that if workers are given
a specialized task to do, they will
become skillful and more efficient in it
than if they had a broader range of
tasks.
11. Authority
â˘This principle looks at the concept of
managerial authority.
⢠It looks at how authority is necessary in
order to ensure that managerial
commands are carried out.
â˘If managers did not have authority then
they would lack the ability to get work
carried out.
12. Discipline
â˘This principle relates to the fact that
discipline is needed within an
organization for it to run effectively.
â˘In order to have disciplined workers,
managers must build a culture of mutual
respect and motivation.
13. Unity of command
â˘There should be a clear chain of
command in place within an
organization.
⢠An employee should know exactly
whose instructions to follow.

Work should be organized in a way
that means employees are
working in harmony toward a
shared objective or goal using a
shared method or procedure.

whole should take precedence over

employees, they should be paid a
reasonable rate for the work they carry
out.

struggle to attract quality workers who are

â˘This principle relates to whether decisions
should be made centrally, as in from the
top down, or in a more democratic way,
from the bottom up.
â˘Different decision making processes are
appropriate for different types of
decisions.

â˘This relates to the principle of a clear chain of
communication existing between employees
and superiors.
â˘The chain should be respected, unless speedy
communication is vital, in which case the
chain may be bypassed if all parties consent.

This relates to the proper use of

â˘Scientific management is a theory of management that analyzes and synthesizes workflows. Its
main objective is improving economic efficiency, especially labor productivity.
â˘The concept of scientific management was given to improve the productivity, efficiency and
effectiveness in the organization through the application of the proposed scientific principles
and techniques.
26. Science Not Rule of Thumb
â˘Taylor believed that to perform any task efficiently; there is only one best possible method
which is developed after an in-depth analysis of that job.
â˘When science is applied instead of the rule of thumb, to any job, it standardizes that work.
27. Harmony Not Discord
â˘Taylor emphasized on maintaining peace and harmony in the workplace, and there should be no
conflict among the managers and the workers.
⢠Conflicts only result in negatively, i.e., a decline in the productivity of the organization.
28. Cooperation Not Individualism
â˘employees in an organization must work together, keeping aside their objectives and ego to
achieve the common goals set by the management.
