XIa PROJECT
New Laws
The Committee
Your group has been given responsibility for shaping policy for the new government.
Together identify which areas need most urgent change in your country, then decide on
3 – 5 new laws that will bring about change. (There needs to be the same number of laws
as number of people in your group)
Drafting the laws
Each of you should be responsible for one of the laws you would like the government to
introduce. Write a draft for this law including the following information:
state the law
explain why any existing laws on this matter need to be changed
explain who it will benefit and how
refer to any other countries that already have this law
suggest what should happen to people who break this law
Back to the Committee
Present your draft to your colleagues and make notes of any alterations they think you
should make. Listen to their ideas too and tell them what, if anything, they should add or
change.
Once you have all agreed on final versions, write out your Proposal for Law X
The Presentation
Present your new laws to your colleagues, who will be acting as members of the
Government. Don’t forget to “sell” your proposals to them by first explaining why you
chose to make new laws for these areas first, then present each law. Be prepared to
answer any questions the Government have.
