Planning Guide - GENERIC (1) (1).pptx

  1. 1. GENERIC PLANNING DOC OLIVIA DAY
  2. 2. TASK 1 Idea Generation and Research
  3. 3. RESEARCH With the help of resources such as this research primer, I have been able to produce research for my project that covers the grounds of all factors that need to be. I have deeply established the target audience and how my ideas will effect them by incorporating socially relevant elements into my ideas. By gathering a collection of facts and demographics, I have presented the logistics of my research in order to clarify my audience.
  4. 4. RESEARCH I have collected a range of research that has helped me to overall grasp a greater understanding of the concept of my project along with additional information that will enhance the quality. The research includes: - Audience research - Existing product research - Primary research - Bibliography In terms of existing product research, I researched VisitYork, a Yorkshire tourist company and also an Instagram media/news account for York, in order to gather an understanding of the type of content I should be producing within my own work and
  5. 5. RESEARCH As my primary research for my project, I composed a survey through www.surveymonkey.co.uk and asked questions that are relevant to my research and could potentially help during my production phase. In order to make sure the survey reached my target audience I asked my Dad to send the link to his university students and I managed to get a helpful amount of responses and am still receiving a few more to this day. As students are my main target audience for my product, doing this offered a great amount of assistance to my research. I also sent the link to a few of other ages so that I could compare the results in as a part of my research which worked effectively in terms of the contrast in the age group’s interests in what to do around the city.
  6. 6. POTENTIAL APPROACHES 1. Create a magazine with a much more high- end aesthetic that would be fit for a wealthier portion on the young target audience. E.g., VOGUE inspired/travel magazine. - I don’t think this would be very fitting for those who are potentially interested in travelling into York as is it such a small demographic that I can see them more interested in travelling to larger cities like London/Manchester. 2. City of York photography tour in which it gives people the opportunity to snap shots of some of the grandest and beautiful buildings whilst learning facts about the history of the city. - I want to produce a concept that stands out to all members of my target audience and due to the diversity in hobbies and interests, I don’t see this as something that could potentially attract a
  7. 7. MIND MAP OF IDEAS Mood board I gathered a collection of inspiring images that I wanted to use as a representation of the vision I had for my own work. I found the photos mostly through Pinterest as I often find that Pinterest has the best mood board photos. A lot of bright colours contrasting the dark as I want elements of my work to stand out. After each mood board I explained the meaning/benefit of the techniques I am inspired by and provided link to pre- existing products that have influenced my work. Y2k/90s photography techniques are a big influence on my work.
  8. 8. SUMMARY Opportunities of my ideas: 1. I have easy access to public travel so travelling into the city of York is simple for me and therefore I have more opportunities to get content for my work. 2. College has given me resources such as adobe photoshop where I can edit my work to a professional standard. 3. A lot of my peers fit the age bracket of the demographic so therefore I may be able to have assistance with my research e.g. recommending cafes and restaurans.
  9. 9. SUMMARY Restrictions to my ideas: 1. Schedule – due to my work and college schedule, I may find it difficult to find many opportunities to travel into town and review certain places for myself so I will rely on sources from other people as research for my magazine and social media page. 2. It may be hard to find people who will be willing to help me with modelling and production due to their work schedule. 3. Lack of professional equipment – For the type of content I am expecting to capture for my project, I plan on travelling to public settings where I won’t have the space to carry professional lighting and cameras so I will use my personal camera instead.
  10. 10. FINAL IDEA – RATIONALE I have chosen to create a magazine and social media page as I believe that a magazine would be a good addition to student communal rooms and the social media page is very easily accessible and can be an interactive space for people. In terms of my skills, last year I was given the opportunity to design and create a magazine cover and therefore I believe that this experience will help me to expand my knowledge on that creative aspect of my project. Additionally, I spend a lot of time on social media myself and know how to set up a professional Instagram account. I want to explore my research and journalism skills which I believe the whole concept of this project will offer.
  11. 11. FINAL IDEA – CREATIVE CONCEPT The theme of my products will be inspired by early 2000s photography/magazine aesthetics as they are very relevant in terms of modern social media trends, and I believe that it will attract the generation Z which is my target audience. I will incorporate film grain and a few black and white filters into my images and y2k inspired, edgy typography into my work to capture that aesthetic. As I do not have the time frame to create and publish a full real magazine, I will instead produce a few crucial pages that would be featured as a taster for what the real thing would be.
  12. 12. TASK 2 Pre-production Assessment
  13. 13. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION OUTLINE Magazine title: FutureYork Instagram profile name: @Future_York Editing resources: Adobe Photoshop 2022 Technological resources: camera – Panasonic Lumix GX85 & iPhone 11
  14. 14. LOCATIONS York city center: bus travel (£1.20 one-way) Cafes and restaurants around the city (around £10-£20 if I buy food) Public attractions/settings (free) York College: bus travel (£2.20 return)
  15. 15. PERSONNEL CREW: In terms of assistance, I do not require any additional help in terms of photography/modelling as my content will be mostly food and scenic shots. COST: In terms of cost, If I decide to review the restaurants for myself, I assume I will be spending approximately £10-£20 per visit along with £2.20 return ticket into town. INTERVIWEES: I recently sent out a survey to university students as a part of my research and hope to ask some first-hand to apply additional content to my magazine.
  16. 16. TASK 3.1 Creative or Visual Planning
  17. 17. CONCEPT BOARD
  18. 18. CONCEPT BOARD DISCUSSION/EXPLANATION - I have taken most of the concept images from Pinterest as I am able to create visual boards for my work in order to keep a constant aesthetic. - The website magculture.com features many up-and- coming magazines that all appear more edgy/editorial than the typical tabloid magazine I am used to. By scrolling through this website, I have found myself inspired by magazine brands such as DAZED and Confused Magazine, I-D Magazine and 10 Magazine. They are all very photography-based magazines which reflect upon real life events whilst revealing the current 90s fashion and aesthetics trend. - The images shown in my concept board all include artistic/grungy images that capture the aesthetic in which I seek for my project.
  19. 19. TASK 3.2 Organisational Planning
  20. 20. ORGANISATIONAL PLANNING WHO: Target audience is students – aged 17-23 WHAT: A magazine based on what to do in York that is enjoyable at a reasonable cost. WHERE: City centre of York WHEN: Now – modern day York (more specifically around freshers time) WHY: So that students who may have moved to York are offered a guide on what to do in the city in their spare time and also a means of advertising what York has to offer to young adults who live outside of the City to make it a more attractive place to visit.
  21. 21. LOCATION INFORMATION Central York: Restaurants, cafes, clubs, bars, photogenic locations etc. I will be using my handheld camera with little lighting equipment in order to capture natural shots of the city life that will be incorporated into my magazine.
  22. 22. LOCATIONS Cafes: Drift-in, Partisan, Melk, Brew and Brownie, Rise., Robinsons, Luxury Ice Cream Company, Double Dutch Pancake House Street Food: SPARK*, Shambles Food Court, YUZU Restaurants: Dough Eyed Pizza, Doner Summer, Turtle Bay, Little Italy, Pavement Vaults, The Cut and Craft, Heavenly Deserts Clubs/bars: Kuda, Yates, Flares, Revolution, Vudu, Stone roses bar, Slug and lettuce, Manahatta, Jalou Things to do: Picnic in museum gardens, York art gallery, visit shambles, Hole in wand mini golf
  23. 23. RISK ASSESSMENT Risk Likelihood 1-5 (5 = very likely) Action Running out of time 2 Ensure I don’t get distracted and work efficiently with the time I am given in college and at home. Insufficient Resources 3 Compromise with the resources I have got and edit my work to appear professional. Bad weather 3 Disguise the weather in my photos with an interesting focal point. Location complications e.g. closed or inaccessible 1 Compromise by taking exterior shots if needs be.
  24. 24. CONTINGENCY PLANNING Technical, Location, Personnel and Organisational Content Situation Plan B Technical Forget to save – lose a lot of work. Always ensure I save! Gives myself an opportunity to explore ideas and editing techniques. Technical Computer crashes Ensure I save again. Stay cautious of dodgy cords/ lagging computer. Location Harmful weather e.g. heavy rain/windy storm Shoot content on another day, spend the day on editing at home Organisational Running out of time/ schedule overruns Use study sessions in college or time at home to catch up with missing work Personnel Fall ill and miss out on time at college to continue with work If up for it, try to work from home – if not, catch up with work in study sessions in college
