Business etiquette is the set of written or written or
unwritten rules of conduct that facilitate interaction
between people in the work place in the work world by
setting standards for appearance and behavior.

body language
Turn off cell phones and laptops
Do not interrupt the speaker instead you say “ a quick

Give a professional greeting and identify yourself
Be genuinely polite and respectful in your tone
Be clear and precise
Say “please” when appropriate
End on a positive note e.g. Have a nice day sir! ,

HANDSHAKE ETIQUETTE
Know when to initiate the hand
Stand and look the other person in the eye with a
smile
Your handshake should be firm and not crushing
The handshake should be approximately two to five
seconds in duration
Beware of the other hand
Shake hands in an up-down motion

BUSINESS CARD ETIQUETTE
Do not ask for business cards in front of people.
Ask privately and one-on-one
Read the business cards for about a minute
before placing them in the card holder
Give with both hand and receive with both
hands
It is professional to put business cards in a
business card holder
Do not write anything on the business card
Your body language can tell someone about your confident level (Be relaxed and sit up straight)
Be careful not to transition from a smile to a straight face too quickly
Dress neat and be conscious what your dress says about you
Sit up straight, give feedback by nodding or making listening sounds, make eye contact
The person in a higher position of authority or age should be the first to extend hand.
If you do not have a card holder, place the card on the table until the end of conversation or meeting
The reason it is more appropriate to give with both hands is so that the recipient can see clearly the content of the card
It is not appropriate to give compliments to the card, or say, “Nice looking business card”
