How it all started… Communities are important. That’s what we’ve been studying here in Room 301. We were brainstorming different ways we could help our community. So, we took a trip across the street to Clark Park.
At the Park This is us at Clark Park. We are observing the wading pool. This was the first thing we saw when we arrived.
What’s this? Oh, it’s a woman’s bathroom. It’s locked though. We don’t know who can use this. We noticed that there was also yellow spray paint on the walls. It’s called graffiti.
This is the playground at Clark Park. We were tempted to abandon our tour and play on it.
We tried to guess what this building was, but we couldn’t figure it out. It also had graffiti.
A Tour While we were walking, we noticed that there were some cords sticking out of the ground. Someone should pick up these electric wires. Oh yeah, and the leaves too.
We are wondering what this building is used for? It had a beautiful mural painted on the outside.
This was another really cool mural. It’s made out of small pieces of glass tile. This made the park look really nice.
We were very surprised to find that these were designed by kids. They were way cool!
What we did… After seeing the different parts of Clark Park, we decided to do something to help improve it.
Survey We created a survey on survey monkey to find out what the community thought about Clark Park. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KDPBD3S
Question 1
Question 2
Question 3 Do you like to go to Clark Park? Answered Question: 31 Skipped Question: 1 1 I don’t like to go 3.2% (1) 2 6.5% (2) 3 Sometimes 45.2% (14) 4 0.0% (0) 5 I love to go to Clark Park 45.2% (14)
Question 4 What do you want to see improved in Clark Park? Why? A better play area More lighting and more picnic areas with tables Bathrooms for children and portable water available, bigger and safer play grounds, more picnic areas for more tables, more trash cans The building and playground I want to see lots of kind people and animals In Clark Park like to see the trees because I like them and one time I saw a tree that looked like a heart. I want to see people have fun. Monkey bars More swings slides less garbage Maybe if we get the graffiti off People answered: 19 People skipped question: 13
Question 5

Question 7 Would you want the slide painted? Answered question: 29 Skipped question: 3 58.6% Yes (Response Count 17) 41.4% No (Response Count 12)
Solutions? We know this is a lot to swallow. We have some suggestions as on how to make Clark Park better.
Hire a Full Time Maintenance Crew
Hire Security to protect the park.
Put more trash cans in the park.
New playground equipment.
$ Now these may be good suggestions, but how should we fund it?
A summer concert in the park!
What about a Community Carnival?
Have you heard of the Pepsi Refresh Project? They award grants from 5,000-250,000 thousand dollars for projects that will enhance and change communities for the better.
Voting They vote for the project on Facebook, text, and email. The community would be able to win this grant if everyone pitched in their support.
Well, that’s our presentation from Room 301. We are a gifted and talented class with many ideas to make our community a better place.
We hope you will support us as we attempt to turn Clark Park into a beacon of our community.
