From the May 2014 ORCID Outreach Meeting, https://orcid.org/content/orcid-outreach-meeting-and-codefest-may-2014

ORCID at professional associations

For scholarly societies, ORCID can help tie together siloed internal systems, including manuscript submission, membership management, author and reviewer databases, and conferences, improving an organizations ability to serve its members. This session will offer a discussion of integration points, policy issues, data flow between systems, researcher participation, discovered opportunities, and demonstrations by societies and vendors.

Moderator: Bernard Rous, Director of Publications, Association for Computing Machinery

Presenters:

Scott Moore, Director of Technology Services, Society for Neuroscience
Reynold Guida, Director, Product Management, IEEE
Gordon MacPherson, Director of Conference Quality, IEEE
Mary Warner, Assistant Director, Publications, American Geophysical Union

  3. 3. Background (Continued)
  4. 4. Background (Continued) • Personify implementation – First started Personify implementation in 2008; launched new system in 2009 – Currently running Personify 7.5.1 – Utilize eBusiness, Personify SSO, basic modules – Abstracts and Meeting Registration handled outside Personify – In-house development staff working directly with Personify API (VisualBasic.NET & C#.NET) • Growth of SfN and the field create new challenges

  6. 6. Project Goals • Accurately distinguish themselves and their activities from other researchers, minimizing misidentification • Centrally maintain their research activities with SfN and ORCID, two organizations positioned to reach across disciplines and national boundaries (approximately 38% of SfN’s members reside outside of the U.S.) • Benefit from efficiencies where common information is not re- entered across systems • Improve data integrity in Personify
  7. 7. Integration Plan • Integration Point 1: Account Registration – Site visitor wishes to create an account with SfN to purchase a product, sign up for alerts, etc • Integration Point 2: New Member and Returning Member Workflows – An individual seeks to join or re-join SfN • Integration Point 3: My Profile/My SfN – An Individual logs into the My SfN section to leverage personalized content
  8. 8. Integration Point 1: Account Registration
  9. 9. Integration Point 2: New Member and Returning Member
  10. 10. Integration Point 3: My Profile/My SfN
  11. 11. Project Status • Remaining work – One more cycle of development, testing and bug fixes – Begin communications – Develop and implement evaluation plan • Projected launch date in August 2014
  12. 12. Future Plans – Abstracts and Meeting Registration • After an evaluation period, SfN will look into the possibility of integrating ORCiD identifiers into: – Abstract submission (16,000 abstracts in volume) – Annual meeting registration (roughly 30,000 attendees)
