2. Oltremare is an Italian private
company that since 1960 has been
designing and manufacturing
integrated solutions for the agro
and the food industry in Bologna,
one of the major agro-industrial
areas of the country.

3. Oltremare was founded in Bologna in 1960 by
Francesco Massari.
The company has gained experience trough the
years especially in the supply of several cashew
nut processing plants and machines in Africa,
South America and Asia, carrying out turn key
industrial projects financed by international
commercial banks, financial institutions and
development banks such as the W.B., the ADB, the
FAO, the UNDP and the E.I.B.

6. Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania), 1964 : the inauguration of the
Tanita Cashew Nut Processing Co. Ltd. The factory had a
capacity of 12.000 tpy of raw material in input.

7. Korhogo (Ivory Coast), 1977 : this plant had the capacity of
1.500 tpy of RCN. Later OLTREMARE supplied the line for
frying, salting and packing the cashew kernels.

8. The cashew is grown for commercial purposes in 32 countries worldwide.
The major producers are India, Africa (particularly Nigeria, Tanzania, Ivory
Coast, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique and Benin), Vietnam, Brazil and Indonesia.

10. In the 80’s and 90’s Oltremare has
improved its competence in color and size
separation, acquiring two of the most
experienced companies in the field.
Oltremare has been serving a variety of
customers worldwide among which private
companies, government companies and
multinationals. Oltremare is now in a
position to offer its customers a complete
range of services and supplies covering a
wide spectrum of agro-industrial and food
products.

11. Since the beginning in 1960, Oltremare has
started a keen and global knowledge of the
cashew nut mechanical processing technology,
acquiring experience in the years through inside
constant research, which now definitely makes it
the undisputed world leader in the cashew nut
processing industry.

12. The company is currently managed by the second
generation of its founding family: Stefano Massari, the
managing director of today.

13. Over the years Oltremare has added to its primary
activity in the cashew nut field two more machinery
lines which complement and at the same time widen
the scope of business: engineering, production and
installation of electronic color sorters and packing
machines for bulk commodities.
Many are the treated commodities: rice, wheat,
coffee, pulses, dry fruit, spices, aromatic herbs and
leafy products.
A customized approach is proposed to customers so
to meet their specific processing needs.

24. Oltremare gives the utmost importance to the after sales
service. This is organized through a dedicated department
inside the company that supervises the technical assistance
service and the spare parts distribution.
The technical assistance service is carried out in the major
producing areas of the world by properly trained local
technicians, speaking the local language and trained on the
peculiarity of the local production.
In many production countries Oltremare has a spare parts
stock for a prompt delivery service.
Usually technical personnel from the headquarters frequently
visit customers and producing areas to address and supervise
the work of the local personnel.

25. Oltremare sales and marketing service is carried out from
the headquarters in Italy and in cooperation with a
network of representatives and agents that operate in
more than 50 countries. Frequent visits on the spot by our
area managers integrate and support the continuous and
peculiar work of our agents.
Customers are guided to the choice of the best possible
solution to their processing requirements by experienced
personnel constantly in touch with our technical
department.
In many countries trial machines are available at the
agent’s premises to carry out tests on the customer’s
product. Where this is not available, tests can be carried
out at the headquarters in Italy.

26. A keen analysis of the product to be processed is carried out to
determine its characteristics. The product samples are
analysed in our laboratory that draws a report with all the
necessary values to identify the lot and its processing
requirement.
The analysis provides all the indications for the study of the
processing diagram. The customer is involved in the choice of
the processing solution to be applied to obtain the required
characteristics of the finished product.
If required and if the conditions of the product allow it, trials
are conducted in the Oltremare’s Trials Facility so to simulate
the industrial processing conditions. Trials normally give
indications about the productivity and the efficiency of the
proposed solution.

29. Oltremare technical office is available to study and
project special layouts and/or solutions according to the
customers’ needs.

30. OLTREMARE is opinion leader in cashew
processing technology, and in this respect it has
introduced and will still introduce in the future
many original and effective techniques and
solutions.
Thanks to a qualified team of experts and
engineers, OLTREMARE know-how will still
