development cooperation in the water sector
• With approx. 350 mio. Euros
annually, BMZ is one of the
largest donors in the water
sector worldwide
• 11 of the 16 water focus
countries are located in Africa
• 46 % of the new commitments
in the water sector (technical
cooperation) in 2017 were
dedicated to Sub-Sahara Africa

contain good governance components
Category 1: Financial Management and Planning
 e.g. budget allocation:
 Transparent subsidy allocation criteria,
 Clear criteria for awarding of projects,
 etc.
Category 2: Sector Reform and Institutional Framework
 e.g. regulation
 Regulatory tools such as service standards, tariffs,
corporate governance guidelines,
 etc.

 e.g. Regular Sector Reporting
