4. What’s the current state of the Healthcare industry today?
An increase in demands for healthcare needs has led to an
increase in jobs. In March 2016 alone, the Bureau of Labor
Statistics reported that employment rose by 37,000 in
healthcare. Furthermore, “In the last 12 months, employment
in the health industry had increased by 183,000, accounting
for about 36 percent of the job gain in healthcare over the
same period.”
In March 2016:
• Ambulatory healthcare services added 27,000 jobs
• Hospitals added 10,000 jobs
• Home health care services added 10,000 jobs

5. As healthcare organizations react to an increasing workforce
and demand, providing the highest levels of care to patients
and their families remains a top priority. Now is the time to
recognize the committed men and women and show
appreciation for the great work and loving care they provide.
6. WHAT IS NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK?
On May 8-14, 2016, hospitals around the country celebrate
and recognize the men and women who every day work hard
to deliver exceptional healthcare to the community.

Recent research commissioned by the O.C. Tanner Institute shows
that employees who receive strong performance recognition are
more likely to be highly engaged, more likely to perform at their
maximum output, and more likely to develop innovative ways to
improve their company. Further research shows that when asked,
“What is the most important thing that your manager or company
currently does (or could do) that would cause you to produce
great work?” the answer by far, “recognize me.”

local community can participate in
NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK.
11. 4 STRATEGIES FOR HOSPITAL
EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION
Hospitals should use this week to promote employee appreciation
and show how much they value staff members. This recognition
should include these four important tactics to be successful:
Start the week with a message from leadership, then make
sure leaders at all levels are around all week sharing the
impact staff members make.
Find ways to promote and celebrate peer-to-peer recognition
as well, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in helping
each other out.

14. GET THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED
Recognition and appreciation doesn’t just have to come from the
hospital staff. Here are some ways the community can get
involved during National Hospital Week. Community members can:
• Participate in the digital campaigns by posting pictures
or retweeting statistics
• Write thank you letters to doctors, nurses, and other
workers at your local hospital
• Visit hospital seminars, presentations, and showcases (if offered)
• Donate to your local hospital

SPREAD AWARENESS
In addition to employee recognition, hospitals should also focus on
spreading awareness of National Hospital Week and share with the
community how impactful their industry is. The American Hospital
Association (AHA) has provided multiple digital campaigns for
the 2016 week, which include:
#MyHospital Campaign
Submit photos and videos on social media (Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram, etc.) with the #MyHospital hashtag. AHA will
promote the shared media during National Hospital Week.
