How does the Destructo-Culture work?

Why is it so difficult to change? PART 2

If we do not understand the mechanics of current systems & especially its self-regulating (or self-defence) systems, we can hardly expect to change it: in fact it is possible that we will simply keep reproducing the basic patterns with some new external appearance.

  29. 30. <ul><li>eg. Frank & Wolfgang </li></ul><ul><li>of the Uni. of New Tokio </li></ul>
  30. 31. a MYTH is a setting that interrelates man, the world & the gods REPRESENTING a myth is to live in such a way as to make the myth reality a CULTURE is a people REPRESENTING a MYTH
  31. 32. <ul><li>Ishmael asks what is the Creation Myth of our culture </li></ul>??
  32. 34. our Creation Myth
  33. 35. La medusa our Creation Myth
  34. 36. our Creation Myth
  35. 37. “ So that your story of creation ends '& in the end appeared man' &quot; &quot;Yes&quot; “ Which means?” &quot;It means there was no more. It means that creation had finished.” “ & this is what it was building up to.” &quot;Yes&quot; Ishmael, Daniel Quinn
  36. 38. “ Everyone in your culture knows that the world was not created for medusas, salmon, iguanas or gorillas. It was created for man.” &quot;Correct&quot; Ishmael threw me a sardonic look. “& this is not mithology?” &quot;Well ... facts are facts.&quot;
  37. 39. &quot;Did the entire cosmic process of creation come to an end three million years ago, right here on this little planet, with the appearance of man? Did evolution come to a screeching halt just because man had arrived? Do you see the slightest evidence anywhere that man was the climax toward which creation had been straining from the beginning?&quot; &quot;No. Nor can I imagine what such evidence might look like.” “ Therefore what should we think of the story that you told?” &quot;It is a myth. Incredible, but yes it is a myth.”
  38. 40. our Creation Myth
  39. 41. &quot;If the world was made for you, then what?&quot; &quot;Then it belongs to us and we can do what we darn well please with it.&quot; &quot;Exactly. That's what's been happening for the past ten thousand years. You've been doing what you darn well please with the world. And of course you mean to go right on doing it, because the whole thing belongs to you.&quot;
  40. 42. &quot;Yes. Actually that's pretty amazing. I mean, you hear this fifty times a day. People talk about our environment, our seas, our solar system. I've even heard people talk about our wildlife.&quot; &quot;The world was made for man to conquer and rule, and under human rule it was meant to become a paradise. This clearly has to be followed by a 'but.' It has always been followed by a 'but.' The 'but' was there to explain all the flaws in your paradise -- warfare and brutality and poverty and injustice and corruption and tyranny.&quot;
  41. 43. I looked at him blankly. &quot;Come, think. What went wrong here? What has always gone wrong here? Under human rule, the world should have become a paradise, but ...&quot; &quot;But people screwed it up.&quot; &quot;But why?&quot; &quot;Because there's something fundamentally wrong with humans. Something that makes people stupid and destructive and greedy and shortsighted.&quot; &quot;Of course. Everyone in your culture knows this.&quot; I gave him a long incredulous stare. &quot;Are you suggesting that this explanation is false?&quot;
  42. 44. “ There is nothing fundamentally defective in humans. If you are given to represent a story that puts you in harmony with the world, you will live in harmony with the world. But if you are given a story to represent that puts you in conflict with the world, as yours does, you will live in conflict with the world. If you are given a story to represent in which humans are the lords of the world, humans will act as lords of the world ... if the world is an enemy to be conquered, you will conquer it like an enemy, & one day this enemy will inevitably lie bleeding at your feet, as we see it does at the moment.&quot; Ishmael – Daniel Quinn

  47. 49. the ability to see patterns stories (tales) can be very complex models - mythology, symbolism, many 'layers'
  48. 50. protection/predation ‘ Alien’
  49. 51. ‘ two lives’ / ‘existential doubt’
  50. 52. ‘ the teacher’
  51. 53. decision: illusion or reality
  52. 54. birth / resurrection coffins/crysalis
  53. 55. un-plug / consciousness-raising a painful birth (there is nothing comfortable in the process of re-gaining consciousness)
  54. 56. many many wires ... lots of fear
  55. 57. recuperation phase muscles, mind, eyes ... very weak (never been used ...)
  56. 58. activists ... can 'read the code' ... & keep watch & live in 'the real world' (ugly, uncomfortable, horrible food..)
  57. 59. they can go in & out of the Matrix but ...
  58. 60. tutorials about reality & pseudo-reality also very painful ...
  59. 61. how we are born 'plugged-in'
  60. 62. lots of practice (after 'downloading' all the theory) mastery requires lots of creativity & applied intelligence
  61. 63. & confront lots of frightening things
  62. 64. AGENTS = “programs” = any person who is still plugged into the Matrix
  63. 65. to enter the illusion ... need to maintain VITAL connexions what do they enter the illusion for?
  64. 66. our colleagues can be brought by the system & become very dangerous jelousy, superficiality, lack of conviction, doutbs, divergent ethics & values, comfort-seeking, dishonesty
  65. 67. love & closeness are the most trust-worthy security measures reliable colleagues are essential for when we are fighting in our great battles
  66. 68. &quot;the Luddites were right&quot;
  67. 69. use all of the destructo-culture arms that you can get your hands on ... strategically
  68. 70. level 2: overcome fear . the DC controls us through our 'shadow' (ego) & especially using our most ancient fears we find our own power
  69. 71. what can we do with it? how to use this power to liberate others?
  70. 72. what is your bag of vocations, talents & skills?
  71. 73. pattern recognition understanding the language of patterns is a special type of 'vision' & a skill that can be learned
  72. 74. <ul><li>Longer term </li></ul><ul><li>LIBERATE all humans from the programs that trap them in the illusion (UN-PLUG them) </li></ul><ul><li>So LIBERATING the human mind, letting it learn from its errors (the era of machines is a very important stage) & design a rational civilization </li></ul><ul><li>Eliminate the PROGRAMS </li></ul>How do we achieve Change according to this model according to this model
  73. 75. <ul><li>Shorter-Term </li></ul><ul><li>Un-Plug OURSELVES always more - see a Course of Miracles (intellectual) & Co-counselling (emotional) </li></ul><ul><li>in the mean time... RESIST the temptation to act as AGENTS of the DESTRUCTO-CULTURE (attacking our colleagues who are trying to change things) </li></ul><ul><li>BE CONSCIOUS that we are most of the time inside & dazzled by our 'dramas' & those of others (the illusion) - we don't see REALITY </li></ul><ul><li>Teach PermaCulture - as a science that teaches how to ‘see patterns’ & ‘read the code’! </li></ul>How do we achieve Change according to this model according to this model
  74. 76. IF THE WORLD WILL CHANGE it will not be changed by minds with new programmes but by new minds WITH NO PROGRAMMES Daniel Quinn
  75. 77. <ul><li>is it important to have mental models of the DestructoCulture THAT WORK </li></ul><ul><li>(explain well what happens & why) </li></ul>in order TO APPLY THEM without them we CAN'T change anything
  76. 78. <ul><li>“ if you don't know where you're going, any direction will take you there&quot; </li></ul>Without maps that describe the territory in an accurate way, any place we go & any thing we do, quite LITERALLY makes no sense.
  77. 79. &quot;You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.&quot; Buckminster Fuller
  78. 80. PRACTICE 1) send YOUR thoughts about each of these models, including your decisions (if any) about resulting ACTIVISM/DESIGN 2) think how these models COMBINE, how they fit with each other
  • muchos cables.. mucho miedo
