WHAT IS CLASSIFIED PAINT AND ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS LTD?
Classified Paint & Electrical Contractors Ltd is a limited company incorporated on the 8th day
of September, 2014. As a start up that was designed by three young and innovative
individuals seeking to venture into the construction, housing and real estate sectors. The
company plans to use new innovations and technology available to make it a reality to many
who wish or dream of owning a house and or business premises.
To make this a reality, the company plans to use ready and available opportunities in the
supplies of goods and services to public and private institutions through expressing interest in
tendering and to sub – contract by / and or other companies.
The supplies will be mainly those related in the field of construction and or any other that the
company deems right as indicated below and our Memorandum and Articles of Association.
THE OPPORTUNITY
SIZE OF THE MARKET AND GROWTH RATE IN THE INDUSTRY
According to the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, rapid urban
development is expected to the urbanization level from the current 34% to slightly over 50%
by 2030. This is slowly coming into reality as Kenya’s demographic, social and economic
landscape is already undergoing radical transformation as the country implements the
developed system of governance with counties gaining autonomy and financial resources.
This transformation has been greatly influenced by the construction industry which accounts
for 5% of Kenya’s GDP and employs about 1 million people. (Construction Business
Review, 2011)
The housing index survey by the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) revealed that 68% of
home owners built their own units compared to 17% who acquired readily built homes. With
the trend, companies in construction industries are working towards improved technologies of
building homes that are both cost effective as well as reduced time of construction and labour
requirements to make it a reality to many.
The construction industry is expected to observe exponential growth as the government and
private developers increase investments in infrastructure and housing: firstly due to a huge
deficit in the country’s infrastructure and secondly, rapid growth in population which has led
to a soaring demand in housing. The housing industry is currently growing at 206,000 units a
Page 5 of 8 Classified Paint And Electrical Contractors Ltd.
year with 82,000 of them springing up in the urban areas. According to the Kenya National
Bureau of statistics (KNBS), the construction sector grew by 5.5% in 2013 as compared to
4.8% in the previous year boosted by increase in the value of building plans approved in the
housing sector which rose to 34.2%. This has created opportunity for middle and low income
housing, manufacture and supply of construction materials and components as well as in the
area of upgrading informal settlements. The level of building and construction activities in a
country is an indicator of the general economic performance of that economy due to linkages
with most other sectors with corresponding demands for material and labor inputs” KNBS
said.
MARKET ESTABLISHMENT
 At present we have identified existing markets in Nairobi and its environs as well as
its outskirts, Kiambu, Kirinyaga and Machokos Counties. Although other Counties
are slowly gaining momentum as the demand for better housing continues to grow
enormously.
 Kiambu County is slowly gaining popularity as it’s considered the next best
investment option for local and foreign investors in the construction industry. This
ribbon development has been influenced by the multilane Thika Super Highway, the
Northern Bypass and towns like Ruiru which is currently harvesting from a house
boom since there are many coffee estates which are being converted into residential
houses. Though the land values at these areas are exorbitant, developers are positive
of putting up developments that will give maximum returns hence birth of projects
such as the Taut City and the Kahawa Downs Development Estate.
 Kirinyaga on the other hand has shown significant rise in implementing development
strategies that have catapulted the country into the fastest growing county in the
central region. Also as land levels in Nairobi, with the rapid growth of the
construction industry especially in the real estate sector have become a key element in
establishing successful projects. And with the National Construction Authority (NCA)
having recently developed new laws to curb out quarks in the industry.
 Machakos County too, located in between Nairobi and the Coast region is another key
area prone to development, with upcoming mega projects like the ICT’s Konza City
in Athi River and many more.
