2. Question : How does your product use or challenge
conventions and how does it represent social groups or
issues?
I specialize in psychological thriller and in my opinion, conventions are typical things the
audience expect to see. I have tried to fit conventions while also trying to create a unique
product. I have researched on many films to see what kind of generic conventions exist. The
typical conventions are to have uniquely uncomfortable eye catching props such as flickering
lights, torn curtains/clothes and to create a dark atmosphere.
The main focus in thriller films is mostly the sound effects and mise en scene. They can be used
through diegetic or non diegetic sounds, to create an ambient environment. The films mainly
depends on location and area. The atmosphere is created by the image shown to you. A perfect
example of mise en scene is the image to your right.
3. to create a good film one must have an animatic sequence so that things are not lost or problematic
while making the film. this can be done by taking notes or having a well written script. another major
prop that we have used is makeup. as it changes the entire
effect of the scene. and also the get up of the characters. an example of makeup done to a character
is shown below.
Different types of social groups would watch this specific genre. An Audience between the ages of 18
and 49 middle to upper class from high school graduates to working men/women will be interested
in this genre. I have kept my language as simple as I could with some movie language that is easily
understandable to all movie lovers. many people can afford movies after spending on their basic
needs. People who are interested in thriller and value appearance would be the one buying my
product.
Its better to draw the image before
using the make up on the actor to
make it easier for the artist to
picturise the character.
4. Question : How did your production
skills develop throughout this product ?
The first step I took was research and planning. Before starting my preliminary
task I did a detailed research on other films lying under my genre to understand
the codes and conventions which links from real media texts it was a great
decision to make of what type of genre would I like to work on but it was very
important for me to have an inspiration first . My inspiration for this genre was the
movie inception as it plays a complete mind game till the end of the movie
creating enigma For this, technology was an important factor for the consumption
and production of my media text as it enhanced my creativity. We were supposed
to present our work on our blogs and it was a bit difficult since I was not use to
blogging. during the production of this product I learnt many new different
conventions and saw many different films which allowed me to have a better
general knowledge of the genre.
5. Question : How did you integrate
technologies-software, hardware and
online?
Computers have made life easier, It is a very important tool as it
can save a lot of time and now days its all about blogging. In the
very beginning we were told to save our work on the school
systems. From the very first day we were supposed to start
blogging our work till the last class. We used the computer
systems to surf the internet "GOOGLE" was one of the most
important engine that we made a lot of use in our research
(inspiration). Blogging became the part of our daily life as we
were supposed to mention about every experience we had and
what we did in our class.
Photoshop:Adobe Photoshop was the main software we made
use of to construct the preliminary and final magazine. I had
basic knowledge of Photoshop but i was keen to expand the
skills through online and mostly by my teacher who helped me
a lot throughout. It was a bit difficult job but i had a great
support
6. Mobile phone (smartphones): My phone was of a great help. I downloaded the
application in it so that it i could regularly update it. Before my photo shoot
took place i captured a lot of pictures from my phone camera to see the
lightening and location before the actual photo shoot. I always gave my phone
to one of my friend during the shoot so she can take some "behind the scene"
pictures shown on my blog. Similarly, we used it during the class to take
pictures of other during the presentation.
Professional camera(DSLR): It was very essential to use professional camera for
better quality for my shoot without it my work wouldn't have looked
professional. We had a class that was totally dedicated on camera techniques
we got to learn a lot and according to that we took our shots and angles on the
final day of our photo-shoot.
