Her Government called her a traitor. Based on true events, Official Secrets tells
the story of Katherine Gun (Keira Knightley), a British intelligence specialist who
received a shocking memo in 2003: the United States is enlisting Britain's help in
black-mailing United Nations Security Council members, so they vote in favour of
the Iraq War. Unable to stand by, Gun defies her government and leaks the memo
to the press beginning an explosive chain of events that will ignite an
international firestorm, expose a vast political conspiracy, and put Gun and her

Like you, I live in Stratton and last year I
was concerned to hear that a developer
had submitted plans to Cotswold District
Council to build a truck stop for up to 75
lorries in Stratton, off Gloucester Road.
If approved, this truck stop will provide
24 hour access for up to 75 lorries, 15
cars, a café, showers and service yard.
Individual lighting bays as well as lighting
around the perimeter will provide security
incase of thefts etc.
Many local residents raised objections,
primarily because of concerns about the
number of lorries driving along
Gloucester Road, additional noise and
light pollution spreading over the area
and the threat of flooding.
It is also noted that the site, which is
located within the Cotswolds Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB),
contravenes aspects of the Countryside
and Rights of Way Act 2000 (CDC has a
statutory duty to conserve and enhance
the natural beauty of the AONB), the
Cotswold District Local Plan and the
National Planning Policy Framework.
Cotswold District Council’s Planning
Team asked some very pertinent
questions about the initial plan which
then resulted in a new document being
produced by the developer which, in my
view, did not fully address CDC’s
concerns.
At the time of writing, no date has been
set for the Planning Committee to meet
to discuss the application and, as far as I
am aware, you are still able to add your
comments so, if you are as concerned as I
am about this, please read the
application and add your views.

80 Years of Continuous Service to the Community.
Life was very different 80 years ago
when a local branch of the national
Citizens Advice set up in the Dyer Street,
Cirencester.
It was 1941 and the height of the Second
World War. Concerns of clients were
understandably often related to the war, with
many queries about food rationing, damaged
clothes and property. As the war ended,
questions about help with repatriation and
food parcels became more common.
In current times, our top enquiry areas are
benefit entitlements, debt, housing, energy,
employment and family problems. We work
closely with the North Cotswold and
Cirencester foodbanks and enquiries about
Food Vouchers continue to be high.
Advice given by well trained volunteers,
backed up by a small number of staff was as
key then as it is today,.
In 2013 we joined with Stroud Citizens
Advice to become Citizens Advice Stroud
and Cotswold Districts. We are a small local
charity who relies on support from our District
Councils, town and parish councils and on
donations from local organisations and
individuals. We also receive grants for some
of our project work. For many years our work
in the Cotswolds has been supported by the
Friends of Cotswold Citizens Advice (a
separate registered charity). They raise funds,
help with publicity and most recently they
have provided help with funding to support
advice at the Food Bank, and with computer
costs. The Friends also
recently helped raise funds
with a street collection in
Cirencester Market Place,
coinciding with the
Christmas Market on 5th
December.
They also wanted to ensure
that the local community
were aware of the 80 years
of continuous service.
Thanks to the sterling efforts of the Friends,
with help from volunteer receptionists and
advisers, a total of £227.31 was collected
which will be increased through Gift Aid.
If you would like to become involved in
supporting Citizens Advice in our district, why
not become a Friend? They can be contacted at
FoCCAB@gmail.com, or by writing to: Friends of
Cotswold Citizens Advice, C/O 2/3 The Mews,
Cricklade Street, Cirencester, GL7 1HY
