We hereby confirm that Mr Nicklas Polizzi completed an internship for our company from 11
January 2016 until 10 April 2016 in the PCC Development department at our central lab in
Hahnstätten.
With over 700 employees, SCHAEFER KALK produces limestone and limestone products at different
sites in Germany, Europe and Asia for various industrial sectors including the chemical, environmental,
construction, food and pharmaceutical industries.
The internship focused on:
 the theoretical principles of calcium carbonate synthesis
 an introduction into the application of calcium carbonate in areas including medical
technology
 working in grade C cleanrooms under GMP conditions
 the implementation of precipitation processes for the synthesis of calcium carbonate on lab
and pilot plant scales
 the production of composite materials from a polymer and precipitated calcium carbonate
using solvent-free procedures
 the analysis and characterisation of the synthesised products (calcium carbonate and
composite powder) and biogenic calcium carbonates
 the analysis and characterisation of polymers
Mr Polizzi always showed himself to be a very committed and interested intern. We would like to
emphasise his high levels of independence, reliability and responsible conduct, in particular. He
completed project work independently. His conduct towards superiors, training staff and other
employees in all departments was always exemplary and friendly.
